(ENDED) Yo Gabba Gabba! Live concert, CD release and more! GIVEAWAY

THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED AND COMMENTS ARE CLOSED

The winner is:

#33 Angelfabs

I have to be honest. I used to think the show Yo Gabba Gabba! was weird. Very weird. Weird enough that we avoided it. But one day, Abby and I were sitting in the family room on the floor and I decided to see if there was something on TV that we could watch together and the only thing on for her age was Yo Gabba Gabba! and the second I turned it on, she was captivated. Skeptical, I sat back and watched it with her.

I had no idea what we were missing! At first glance, the shows is comprised of a skinny guy in a retro body suit and fluffy hat and a bunch of strange looking creatures. But it is so much more than that, and all of it helps endear you to the of the characters and what once seemed strange become fun and unique.

Aside from the retro style of the visuals and the costumed creatures, the other thing that is unique right off the bat is the music. It is modern and funky and used in such a creative and educational way that really impresses me. Yeah I sing along. Every episode is full of brief snippets and skits and songs all surrounding a central message. It is lively and keeps Abby’s interest because of the variety of sounds and visuals and the introduction of children throughout the episodes helps her relate to the lessons and the stories. Whether they are teaching about not hitting, about being clean, or any number of great life lessons, it is fun and educational and I am glad that we discovered it and can enjoy it together.

YO GABBA GABBA! premiered in the U.S. on Nickelodeon in August, 2007 and currently ranks as one of the most popular series on television with broad appeal among preschoolers, parents, teens and adults.  The award-winning series stars DJ Lance Rock (Lance Robertson) and a cast of colorful characters, including: Brobee, the little green one, Foofa, the pink flower bubble, Muno, the red Cyclops, Toodee, the blue cat-dragon and Plex, the yellow robot. Today’s most popular names in movies, television, music and sports flock to guest star in the groundbreaking show, including Jack Black, Rachel Dratch, Melora Hardin, Tony Hawk, Biz Markie, Jack McBrayer, MGMT, Mark Mothersbaugh, The Roots, Andy Samberg, Amy Sedaris, The Shins, Amare Stoudemire, The Ting Tings, Jimmy Eat World and Elijah Wood, among others.

On October 20th the FIRST EVER Yo Gabba Gabba! CD release hit store shelves.  I received a copy of it to review and it contains all of the the best songs from the show.  Is it odd that I was listening to it after my kids went to bed?  And not the “I forgot to turn it off” kind of listening, but the “I restarted it even after they had gone to sleep” kind of listening.  I’m not ashamed to admit it.  At least you don’t have to listen to me try and beatbox.

The CD, titled Yo Gabba Gabba: Music Is Awesome is available on Amazon.com for $10.99 right now.

Some other great Yo Gabba Gabba! news, is that they have opened up more concert dates for the Yo Gabba Gabba! LIVE – There’s a Party in my City concert (some had already sold out).  LA, New York and Chicago are the locations for the concerts during November and December and according to the website, there are still tickets available in all cities!!

UPDATE: Dallas show added on Nov. 28th

Yo Gabba Gabba! currently airs on Nick Jr

Andy Samberg, The Roots and MGMT were among the celeb guests who appeared with the Yo Gabba Gabba! gang during a week of new episodes, which aired Monday, Oct. 12 – Friday, Oct. 16 on *Nick Jr (*formerly named NOGGIN).  Additional guest stars appearing throughout the premiere week included hip-hop legend Biz Markie, teaching preschoolers how to beat box in the recurring “Biz’s Beat of the Day” segment, singer/illustrator/composer Mark Mothersbaugh (DEVO) in the recurring “Mark’s Magic Pictures” drawing segment, skateboarder Ray Barbee and musical guests Reeve Oliver, Lady Tigra and Little Ones.  Yo Gabba Gabba!, currently shooting its third season, is created by Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz and is produced by The Magic Store and W!LDBRAIN.  The series airs daily at 1:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nick Jr.  These episodes will be replayed so you can still catch them if you missed them last week!

One last thought…if you are looking for a cute gift for your Yo Gabba Gabba! fan, consider this book called Christmas in Gabba Land.  It is a board book and contains a couple of slots for you to add a photo so your child can be a part of the book!  It is adorable!  I was sent a copy and they gave me the option to keep it or give it away.  Sorry folks, Abby is getting it!
