Who doesn’t celebrate with green cake?

Today was my husband’s birthday and so first thing this morning, I had Jake making him a card. He was hard at work while my husband was still sleeping when our of nowhere he said, “are we making him a cake?”

CRAP

“Well, I don’t have any cake mix” I said.  “Maybe we can go to the store later and get one.”

Then my way too smart kid says “Mommy, maybe you can use the stuff in the cabinet to make one.”

RIGHT

CRAP AGAIN

So I used my handy dandy laptop, searched for “make a cake from scratch” and voila!

RECIPES!  Including one for frosting and we had all the ingredients!

Jake was ecstatic.  He mixed everything himself and picked out the colors and the decorations (yeah so they were leftovers from the kid’s birthdays…).

It was a little dry and heavy for cake but it had a GREAT flavor.  And Jake was very proud of his cake!

Happy Birthday babe!

What a great cake! First thing I think of? Scrapbooking it! LOL!

Happy [slightly belated] Birthday to your hubby! :D

  2. Damn, Felipe, I’m impressed!

But WHY is it green? Does it have to do with the gold tooth and the greasy moostache?

    I’m just curious…

  3. Courtney says:

Aw, very cute! Glad you had all the items! :)

  4. Lovely decor!!! Wicked cool that you were able to do this for DH. Lucky guy.

  5. Very cute and that’s something your son will remember FOREVER. I remember making my dad a cake and having him ask where the real cake was. I was crushed. At least this is a happy memory, lol!

  6. I could not imagine making a cake from scratch. However I am super impressed with you and your kids tonight!!! :)

  7. I’m not sure which to admire more … that you made a cake from scratch or that you had all the ingredients necessary to make a cake from scratch.

I can’t fathom falling into either category.

    Looks delicious!

      Let me clarify….

I found that my husband happened to have all the necessary ingredients in the cabinet where we keep the “stuff” LOL.

      He’s the cook…

The only really weird things were baking soda and powdered sugar, otherwise, flour, eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla.

It was tasty I just need to figure out why it was dry for next time!

  8. Lori says:

I like the technical term “stuff in the cabinet”!

Hey now, this is a family website, isn’t it?? I don’t think you can show that little guy in the lower right corner, can you? ;>

    Happy Birthday, Big Guy!!

  10. Jacqueline says:

Lol, I’ve never had a cake turn green before. At least it tasted and looked good even if it was a little dry and heavy! Great job on the decor Jake! ;)

    • Kim says:

It didn’t TURN green, he CHOSE green LOL.

Insisted! He even wanted green frosting at first but I talked him out of it. Too much green!

      Thanks Jacquie!
