What would you eat?

Ok, here is my next baby shower question.

Does it matter what kind of food you serve?

I’m sure the answers vary greatly, but I’d love to hear what people eat at baby showers.

Does it have to be cute and frilly and all fancy? Or can it be like a tailgate party?

What do you think?

We had a sandwich platter (little breads, meats, veggies, and cheeses), chips, a giant pot of Rotel cheese sauce, and cake. Basically the food was planned around feeding the pregnant woman rather than her guests. LOL

My favorite shower food is mini food – baby versions of regular dishes and appetizers. Baby corn, cocktail franks or pigs in a blanket, finger sandwiches, mini bagels and cream cheese, pizza rolls, stuff like that.

I’m another who says time of day is a big influence.

I’ve been to the fancy shower types and I’ve been to the not so fancy.

My favorite shower (thrown for me) was kinda a casual thing. For food, we served finger sandwiches, crackers and dip (a cheese ball, and spinach dip) fruit, nuts, and mints.

    Everyone enjoyed the foods.

I think the food really depends on the guest of honor and the demographics of the crowd. Having said that, I like the idea of real food, something hearty always goes well with cake and punch and ice cream. But you also want to do something easy with little upkeep during the event. You could do a “season” themed meal with a chili bar (maybe a regular and a veggie kind), with toppings or a taco bar with shells, salad, even walking tacos using bags of Fritos and various toppings, or even one or two kinds of soup with bread bowls. Yes, it’s me…I know a good soup maker who will share recipes if needed :) Spaghetti could be an option too, use a few crock pots to keep things warm and just boil the pasta, add some garlic bread and a salad and you’re good to go.

  5. I think it can go either way, but I guess my baby shower was more tailgate. We had a 3 foot long sub from a local sandwich shop called Thundercloud Subs, but you can get the same thing from Subway. We also had a bunch of chips and dips, the cake of course, possibly ice cream (don’t really remember) and assorted drinks like water, lemonade, sprite, root beer, etc.

My baby shower was held at a tavern and it was great. We had some pasta, chicken, a salad and soup and my Mother in law baked cupcakes that were adorable.

When I hosted my sister-in-law’s, it was more of a spa theme with a few salads, veggie tray, herbal teas, crostini with pickled beets and goat cheese (http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=424539)
and the favors were soaps that I had made with glycerin from the craft store and essential oils. It was very elegant.
