As many of you know, last month we lost our beloved Max. You can read my tribute to him if you missed it: In Loving Memory – Max.

I have to admit, that even though our house was nuts when we had two big dogs around, it is kind of strangely quiet here with only Simon. We’ve talked about getting another dog because the kids really miss Max. Simon, our golden retriever merely tolerates the kids, where Max just adored them! Jake often asks if we can “go see Max.” But, we just are not in a financial position, nor in a mindset right now to adopt another dog, as much as we would like to rescue one from the Humane Society like we did with Max.
Well, today I discovered another option! 5 Minutes for Mom has 3 puppies up for adoption and they require nothing but love! The puppies are from their Stuffed Animal Collection at A Rocking Horse to Love. These puppies are LIFE-SIZED and they are looking for homes for a Dalmation, a Boston Terrier and a German Shorthaired Pointer.

My son would seriously adore the Dalmation! He loves firetruck dogs and this one wouldn’t run away from him like our Golden Retriever does and maybe would help him deal a bit better with Max being gone. I love the Boston Terrier. My parents are involved in Boston Terrier Rescue and the puppy in the picture reminds me of Minnie, one of their past rescues. Minnie was the sweetest dog ever and I will never forget the way she used to streak through the house with a piece of paper in her mouth. If I could pry my arms of the Boston Terrier myself, I would give him to my parents because I know my Dad misses Minnie as much as I do, and anything that would make him happier while he continues to fight and beat down cancer is a fantastic thing. Finally, I actually want a German Shorthaired Pointer! Our neighbor has one and although they aren’t the cutest or prettiest dogs around, they are really cool and loyal friends.
Over the past few years, we have “lost” a total of 3 dogs and 2 cats. Both of our cats had issues with my son when he was born (doing bad, bad, icky things) and had to re-homed to family members. We had to give one of the most awesome dogs, a Belgian Tervuren named Roxie to a rescue (she found a great home) because she tried to eat my son when he was a baby. We had rescued a collie named Harley from some weird people and he had issues that weren’t conducive to babies either, including constantly peeing on my stove, so we found him a great new home too. Then, of course, sweet Max.
So seriously, anything that doesn’t produce POOP, emit foul odors, or pee on my stove is a welcome addition to our family!
If you agree that our home would be the perfect home for these puppies, please head on over to 5 Minutes for Mom and leave a comment letting them know you endorse us! You will have my unending loyalty and admiration if you do! Just tell them that you think that Kim @ What’s That Smell? should get the puppies!

Awwww… that is a powerful entry!
Wow, I wish I had more of these stuffed pups to put up for adoption!
Aww, I love your picture. My GSD is my fuzzy baby, as opposed to the baby from my womb that isn’t quite as fuzzy.
I let them know! Hopefully you will have some new dogs at your house soon :)
Oh, we’re dog people too. My previous dog, I rescued from an abandoned house when it was a tiny puppy and left for dead. The other pups did die. We currently have 2 dogs, both are pound puppies. They’re the best dogs in the whole world. They love so unconditionally and fill our days. They’re our kids as much as our own daughter is.
I wish you all the best finding the new member of your family when the time is right.
Thanks Heather, you rock!
Thanks Blessed, I appreciate it and am going to check out your entry!
I commented for you Kim!!! you NEED that dalmation!!!!!
I love your reasons for wanting to win these puppies… of course I have my own reasons for wanting to win them too – which I posted on my blog. But I had to comment here and say thanks for making me laugh out loud with this line:
“So seriously, anything that doesn’t produce POOP, emit foul odors, or pee on my stove is a welcome addition to our family!”
I’m glad I’m not responsible for picking a winner, there are a lot of good entries!
