From the US Department of Veterans Affairs:
Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
My husband Ed spent 16 years in the US Navy and was retired as disabled after 16 years. He was planning on going at least 20 years with the Navy and maybe more, but a service related back injury changed all of our plans.
The picture below was taken in 2001, not long before he deployed on the USS Carl Vinson to the Middle East, where he would remain when the attacks occurred on 9/11 and in the subsequent months defending our country until Jan. of ’02. He was an electronics technician for the E2-C Hawkeyes, the big radar planes. The picture doesn’t really look like him, he no longer has a moustache and doesn’t usually look that confused, but it is the only one I could find.

On this day, I honor and thank my husband and all the other Veterans out there who served our country, and those still serving to protect the freedoms we hold so dear!

Great tribute
Thank you both for ‘doing what is needed’. Not an easy life but oh so appreciated!
ps..I am glad he does not usually look this confused.lol:)
Thank you to your husband, and to you! I think being in the military is just as hard on the family as it is on the soldier.
Thank you to your husband, and all those who are serving or served, for their dedication!

I also wrote a Veteran’s Day post today. And your husband doesn’t look confused, I think he looks great in uniform. Thank you to your husband for serving. I’m sorry he was hurt and didn’t get to retire out.
