U*neaks Customizable Footwear for kids – review and GIVEAWAY
THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED AND COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED.
My son goes through sneakers like crazy. I often buy them at Target on clearance for $5 just to have some extra ones lying around because he is BRUTAL on them. I like to have a pair that we keep nice for church and other occasions and a pair he can play in outside. He always wants to get a different kind of shoe but for some reason he has had shoes from the Disney movie Cars for the last 2 years or more. They keep going on clearance at Target so that is what I buy! Luckily he adores the movie but still, I think he is getting tired of the same shoes time after time.
I’m not sure Jake is a typical boy because he cares about things like which shirt he wears for the day, and it is usually NOT the shirt I pick out for him. He likes new clothes and especially new shoes. He really loves clothing with sayings and that have his favorite things on them like Spongebob, football and of the 40,000 other “cool” things he likes.
Recently I was given an opportunity to try out a new line of kids sneakers called U*neaks, and I knew it would be a great opportunity to try some different sneakers out for Jake, and to satisfy his clothing and footwear obsession.
ABOUT U*NEAKS
U*neaks patented customizable footwear are sneaker style shoes with side clear panel windows and specially designed socks that allow kids to continuously customize their shoes by simply changing their socks. Pair the shoes with any of U*neaks’ double-sided decorated socks for footwear that’s fun and chock full of personality.
U*neaks shoes come in boys styles and girls styles and range in sizes from Toddler Size 8 to Children’s Size 3.5 depending upon the style. They also have numerous styles, colors and patterns of their socks for both boys and girls including a line with characters from the movie Madagascar 2.
OUR EXPERIENCE WITH U*NEAKS
I let Jake choose which pair of shoes he wanted from the U*neaks website. He chose the Black/Red Boomerang style in size 12.5. He is currently wearing a size 12 in his old shoes and they fit fine so I got the 12.5 (the biggest size in this style) because without being able to try them on, I didn’t want them to be too small.
The U*neaks arrived very quickly and were packaged like any other shoe.

They actually sent the shoes and 4 pairs of socks. Jake was ECSTATIC about all the different socks. I think if he could have worn then all at once, he would have!

The shoes:
I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and pulled the shoes out for the first time. These shoes are even better looking in person than the pictures on the website reveal. They are kind of a “skateboard” style with 2 velcro closures and the black red and grey combo are very attractive. They seem very durable and well made as well. I actually said out loud when I pulled the first shoe out of the box “wow, these are nice!”
The socks:
U*neaks sent Jake 4 pairs of socks, as I mentioned, 2 pairs from the Madagascar line and 2 from their regular line. 2 were ankle socks and 2 were crew socks. The socks are high quality and so cute. The colors are bright and vivid and the styles will suit any kid!
Put them both together:
And you truly have something unique!
How they fit:
I mentioned earlier that Jake was currently wearing a size 12 sneaker and that the U*neaks he received are a 12.5. They seemed true to size in that he has a little bit of room in the toe and will easily be wearing these into next summer and maybe longer. He said they were comfortable and he didn’t want to take them off. The socks seemed true to size as well.
I noticed an interesting feature on the U*neaks that has to do with the tongue of the shoe. It is actually attached to the inside of the shoe on one side, which is BRILLIANT to allow kids to put their own shoes on without the inevitable situation of the tongue being pushed all the way into the shoe and trying to fish it out. That being said, the way it is attached, and least on Black/Red Boomerang style (I can’t speak for the others) if your child has wide feet, the tongue will not center on the top of their foot when the velcro is closed. The shoe itself, however, seems like it would accommodate a somewhat wide foot, just that the tongue would be somewhat angled towards the outside of the foot. Still, seems better than dealing with the tongue falling in and the effort involved in pulling it out!
What Jake thinks:
Jake said that “these are his most favorite shoes ever.” Hands down this has to do with the fun socks and the fact that you can see them through the shoe. He is even planning on wearing them and using them as his “show-and-tell” at preschool next Friday.
Here is my proud hip little man in his new “most favorite shoes ever” U*neaks!

I just want to know if they plan on making them in adult sizes!
