October is International Walk to School Month and because of that, our favorite train town, Chuggington wants to help kids brush up on their safety tips. Being a pedestrian doesn’t mean there aren’t rules to follow.
Pedestrians have to follow traffic signs and signals just like vehicles do, in fact, even more so, because it’s imperative we stay as safe as we can. If kids don’t understand what the signs and signals mean, there is a much larger chance they could be hurt, whether they are walking, taking the bus, or riding their bikes.
In September, Chuggington and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration presented a joint campaign designed to provide guidance for families to help educate kids from preschool age to third grade about the importance of traffic safety.

Appropriately named ‘Think Safe, Ride Safe, Be Safe!,’ the national campaign uses Chuggington’s popular characters to help parents teach their children how to use many of NHTSA’s recommended pedestrian, school bus, bike and car seat safety guidelines as they go about their daily activities. The cornerstone of the campaign is a traffic safety pledge for kids, which is a promise to always buckle up, wear a helmet and cross the street with an adult. Parents can access the pledge at www.chuggington.com/safety, a new microsite featuring interactive safety games and activities for kids.
Who better to teach kids about traffic safety than the Chuggington Trainees? Kids already love them, and they are so eager to learn from them. It’s a perfect fit!
In order to help parents commit to the safety of their kids, Chuggington has put up a Traffic Safety Pledge and they are encouraging parents to have their kids take the pledge. Kids will commit to being safe by agreeing to always wear their seat belts, agreeing to always wear a helmet when riding their bikes, and agreeing to never cross the street without an adult. After they complete the agreement they can then print out a pledge certificate and a safety badge.
Because traffic safety is such an important issue, and Chuggington wants ALL parents to do this pledge with their kids, they are offering up a cool prize package that I get to give away.
