The Banana Splits are Back – and boy does it make me feel old!

I’m not sure how many of you will remember the Banana Splits TV Show since, so far, no one else I’ve talked to does. I know Lori will, though, since she’s so old!

The Banana Splits was a popular costumed rock band and ran as a TV show on NBC for 2 seasons between 1968 and 1970. It was a comedy skit type show geared towards kids and had great music and funny live action and animated segments. It was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. The main thing I remember about the show was the theme song that once you hear, you will never get it out of your head! I must have seen the show in syndication though, because I wasn’t born until a few years after the show originally aired.

Here’s a very old video of the intro from the original show:

Whether or not you actually remember the Banana Splits, you now will have a new opportunity to enjoy them, because THEY ARE BACK!

Starting Sept 2, The Banana Splits will star in brand new comedy shorts and music videos on Cartoon Network. This Fab Four – Fleegle (a dog), Drooper (a lion), Bingo (a gorilla) and Snorky (an elephant) – is ready to introduce their unique style of humor and catchy music to a whole new generation of young fans.

Kids ages 4-7 (and adults with a penchant for nostalgia) can visit their website NOW and watch comedy shorts, music videos, play games, and join the fan club. Go check out the website now before the show starts and share an old favorite (or a new discovery) with your kids. They are guaranteed to entertain.

I received a poster that Jake has already insisted will hang in his room, and a limited edition toddler T-shirt (I wish it fit ME!) and we can’t wait for the show to start in September.

Here’s a picture of the poster and the shirt:

How great was this!!! I remember the Banana Splits. My husband and I refer to them once in awhile. I was about 5 or 6 at the time, but I remember watching them. I loved them. Wow, it really took me back to see this. I’m looking forward to showing my husband :).

Aloha Monkey, I do wonder if they are running out of ideas, but then I think maybe it is a good thing if it brings back some of the values of that era as well!

Debbie, I just can’t believe people I’m talking to in “real life” don’t remember them! How can you forget the theme song?

  7. Even though I was born in 1969, I seem to vaguely remember watching this show. And you say they’re coming back? Are the entertainment people running out of fresh ideas? I’ll have to keep my eyes open for this show. I think my kids just might like it.

  8. Oh yeah, I remember them! Although I was born when they first aired, I watched the syndicated airings as well since I was only 1-3 years old at the time.

  9. Kim says:

Stacey, we don’t have Boomerang, but we can get it for $5/mo. Maybe I should!

  10. Stacey says:

Tra la la Tra la la la. I loved the Banana Splits! They are on Boomerang around noon now. My kids enjoy watching them too, though they are amazed I watched them when I was little.
