It’s almost turkey day!
What do you have planned?
Are you trying, like so many other families this year, to still provide a nice feast for your family on a tiny budget?
Well, Walmart has the solution for you.
A turkey dinner for eight as low as $20
According to a survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation, last year’s average cost of a turkey was roughly $1.19 per pound. Select Grade A turkeys are available now for 40 cents per pound at Walmart.* These gobblers are part of Walmart’s $20 Thanksgiving menu guaranteeing family favorites will be on the dinner table this holiday season. Walmart’s $20 Thanksgiving feast includes:
- One 12-pound Grade A turkey*
- Three 11 to 15.5-ounce cans Green Giant vegetables
- Two 14-ounce cans Ocean Spray cranberry sauce
- Three 6-ounce boxes of Stove Top stuffing
- One 5-pound bag of red potatoes
- One 12-count package of Sara Lee dinner rolls
- One 22-ounce pumpkin roll cake
*Prices and availability may vary in AK, HI, OK, NM, WI and at Walmart.com. Prices on select Grade A turkeys begin November 4; limit two turkeys per customer; weights and brands vary by store. Quantities are limited; no rain checks. All prices do not include tax.
For $20 you can create an unforgettable Thanksgiving with all the turkey day staples for your family this year. How AMAZING is that?
Now I am not much of a cook, in fact sometimes people ask me NOT to. My best cooking “tip” for Thanksgiving is to open both ends of the can and use a butter knife to help slide the cranberry sauce out of the can so you can get it out without messing up the lovely can shape. But in addition to this fantastic $20 Thanksgiving meal, Walmart also wants to help you add some spice to your meal, personalize it and really make it extra special.

Over on Walmart.com they have recipes from Food Network’s Melissa d’Arabians for Creamed Corn Gratin, Green Bean & Pecan Casserole, Creamy Smashed Potatoes and even more to help you WOW your family and still maintain your budget.

Best memory: my Papaw saying grace
One Thanksgiving…I accidently spilled the above said jello concoction on my turkey…I ate it anyways and turned out to be pretty good. For years after that I dipped my turkey in jello.
Every year for Thanksgiving I make one itty bitty contribution, it’s simple and it’s a staple for Turkey Day.
Cherry jello with mandarin oranges, covered in marshmallows
My best money saving tip is Conserve energy..Unplug that cell phone charger when not in use, turn off the computer before walking away from it and STOP standing in front of the refridgerator with the door open looking for something that is not there. At least in my house these all apply and if I don’t keep after the crowd they will do all these and more daily.
My favorite memory is the last year with my dad.He passed away last summer so Thanksgiving of 2007 was our last one together. We managed to all gather at my moms house and my sisters ,mom, and myself stayed up all night cooking and drinking. That is something we NEVER do together but since the men and the kids were fast asleep ,we broke out the Jack Daniels and had ourselves a great time talking over the “old” days and just enjoying each other. The next day (Thanksgiving Day) we all gathered in dads room(he was bedridden by then) and watched movies and got fat..lol. God I miss him -Love Ya Dad!
Every Year I make Butterfinger Cake. It’s not fancy, not expensive but really tasty and we LOVE it!!
My family always asks me to make my Holiday Dressing/stuffing & veggie dip. To save money I try to make as much of my meal as possible. Pre-prepped food cost more for convenience. I get my husband & kids to help prep the food to save time. Also, I order some foods from the local Angel Food Ministries located at a church near us. They have great prices on foods & the money goes to a good cause. My favorite memory is of my Grandma, Mother & sisters all cooking together one Thanksgiving in the kitchen together & sharing fun memories & cooking tips. My Grandma passed away in 1988 from breast cancer. She is sadly missed. My Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last year the day after Mother’s Day. Those old time memories will never fade. They last a lifetime!
I make the grean bean casserole for my mom every year and also pumpkin cheesecake!
I always make my grandmother’s stuffing and cranberry sauce
“Now I am not much of a cook, in fact sometimes people ask me NOT to.” Thanks for the Friday night chuckle, because that statement just cracked me up:)
I bake better than I cook so my specialty is dessert. Usually it is either apple crumb pie or cheesecake.
