A few weeks ago I signed up to be a part of the CLR “Tackle It Tuesday” over at 5 Minutes for Mom. I was sent a bottle of CLR Bath & Kitchen Cleaner and knew just what I needed it for. Our bathtub (we have 2 showers and 1 tub) had gotten really slimy and caked with this foaming colored soap Jake used the ENTIRE bottle of one day during his bath. When the water drained, no one bothered to rinse the tub so the stuff created a layer of crud around the entire tub.
We were all taking showers in order to avoid cleaning the tub until the CLR arrived, but before it got here, we had an emergency situation (extreme, major, yuck) that required me to clean the tub so Jake could use it. So I didn’t get to use the CLR and I didn’t really have anything else to clean. Our house is pretty new and there is no grout anywhere and I keep my kitchen pretty clean. Well, except for the stove.
I am embarrassed to show you the pictures. Our stove is not even a year old and it looks DISGUSTING. When we first got it, I cleaned it after each use and it looked brand new for awhile. Then Abby came along and I had better things to do than clean the stove. So it never got done. And the stuff got baked on time and time again. On top of all that, my husband, while a great cook, is a SLOPPY cook. So now, when I try to clean it, all I ever get is the loose stuff from the last time he cooked, while the baked on stuff stays put.
So anyway, the CLR Bath & Kitchen Cleaner says the following about how/where you can use it:
CLR Bathroom & Kitchen Cleaner can be used on ceramic tile, shower doors, shower head fixtures, kitchen counter tops, white grout and caulk, toilet bowls, sinks, fiberglass and bathtubs.
Do not use on vinyl, marble, mirrors, plastic laminates, wood, fabrics, painted surfaces, colored grout or wall coverings.
My stovetop is porcelain coated so it made sense to me that the CLR should not cause any kind of funky surface issues, and even though baked on food does not qualify as:
stubborn dirt, calcium, lime, hard water stains and soap scum.
I wanted to give it a try.
Here are a couple of gross before shots of my stove:

I took all the precautions recommended on the bottle, wore gloves, was well ventilated and everything else they recommend. I was at a bit of a disadvantage with cleaning because I did not have a bristle type brush, all I could find was a sponge. Considering that, I think the CLR Bath & Kitchen Cleaner did a pretty decent job. It certainly took more of the baked on gunk off than my usual spray cleaner.
So, here are some after shots. Still needs help, but it’s a lot better than it was!

And here is a before and after shot side-by-side:

So, who wants to come over for dinner???

Yeah, I need to do the stove with it too – mine’s pretty bad. Great post! :)
Lori, ha. ha.
If Ed wasn’t here the stove wouldn’t be used!
I AM shocked! I have never seen your stove look like that! Usually, it’s sparkly clean – kind of like it hasn’t been used. :>
I haven’t tried CLR on my stove yet but it does work wonders for our tub. I’m in love with the stuff after just one use on my icky tub.
I still need to find something for the really thick stuff…although I am going to try the CLR with a plastic bristle brush and see if the rest of it comes off.
I just have to go buy a brush!
I do this kind of damage to my burners pretty much every day. Maybe I need some CLR…
