Tab top curtains are just stupid!

When we first moved into our house, we bought some curtains from Wal-Mart to cover our bow window in our living room.  I had always loved the way the tab-top curtains looked in magazines so I just had to have them.  They look so nice and neat and contemporary in the pictures.

See?

Well, they are stupid.

They look nothing like the picture when they hang.  NOTHING.

This is what they look like when you try and move them across the curtain rod:

It’s all ugly and messy and not only that they are not very easy to slide across the rod

We had been needing some curtains on our sliding glass door in our kitchen and I knew I needed to get something different.  So I ordered some metal grommet-top curtains from Brylane Home.  I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE CURTAINS.

Check out how the tops of these look:

And the best part is they only cost me $44 including shipping for 3 panels.  My curtain rod is a little too skinny but for now, these keep the sun (these doors face West) from blinding us while we eat dinner, they look really nice, and they slide across the rod smoothly.

As I said, tab-top curtains are just stupid.

If you are looking for some nice quality curtains at a great price, you really should check out Brylane Home.  You can get 20% off your entire order using the coupon code: BHENTERTAIN.

Oh, and don’t buy the tab-tops.  In case you missed the point…

I agree. We got some grommet type ones for our picture window and I love them. I worried the rest of our decor wasn’t quite modern enough, but they look great and slide easily.

I guess it’s a good thing I’ve never found any tab top curtains to match my living room. I have a hard time finding any curtains to match it, which is why there’s only blinds in the window now. If I see any tab tops that match I’ll avoid them.

I agree! I hate tab tops, because they always get stuck. We bought some of the grommet curtains for our living room, and they’re nice. However they sometimes get stuck on the seam where the curtain rod slides into itself (where the 2 pieces come together, if you know what I mean). But it’s definitely not as irritating as the tab tops.

Just be careful how hard you pull when opening and closing. I pulled it once too hard and snapped the bracket. Then again, the fancy brackets we bought had a really narrow part on them, and that’s what broke.

    Your new curtains look great!

I LOVE the new ones! I don’t care for the look of the tab top curtains anymore either. I’m loving your new curtains!!

I’m *so* glad I saw this post! I’m about to buy [gasp!] tap top curtains for the big front window; I’ve wanted them forever… but now? Not any more!! Thanks for the tip and the code! :D

I always thought the top tabbed curtains looked great in the picture. Then when I saw them at your house I thought, these need a lot of work. You would have to spend a lot of time adjusting them so they hang even every time you opened and closed them. These new curtains look great.

  7. I so agree! BUT I have to add that my window treatments never, never (did I mention NEVER?) look like the pictures. Even if I buy twice as many panels as recommended they still never look as full. Even if I fuss with them for days, the gathers/pleats/whatever never look as even. Ugh, you are either a window-treatment-queen or peasant, and I am a lame peasant.

I like the tab tops in my son’s room, but they’re a faux suede. The truly stupid move was buying the tie tops for the baby’s room. I had to untie and retie every single one back onto the rods when we moved into the house.

I love Brylane Home, so I’ll be taking your code and checking out their site. I still need curtains for our room and the soon to be play/guest room. Among other things we need for the house. I now understand why military families have 2 of most things. Each house is so different.

Very nice…I agree. We bought tab curtains for my daughter’s room and I felt the same exact way! I will have to try these…looking to get new curtains for my room

Nice! I like the metal look, but we’ve just got tab top. They’re even worse when you have a telescoping rod, which the tabs get stuck on!
