In our house allergies seem to be a way of life. From cats to detergent, my husband and my children are always breaking out with rashes and other things associated with allergies. On top of that, we all seem to have seasonal allergies as well with my kids being affected the most. My kids will often be plagued with a stuffy nose during the night at the height of allergy season.
I had no idea that some of the issues my kids experience could be caused by their mattresses. Whether it is dust mites, or pet dander and pollen that get trapped in the mattress, their quality of sleep is most definitely affected – I’ve seen it! I also didn’t realize that there were products you could buy to help with these issues. Sure, we’ve got a mattress pad on our mattress that is supposed to protect it, but who are we kidding, all it does is make my sheets pop off the bed, it is not waterproof and it certainly does not provide a protection against dust mites and allergens. Also my son had a plastic cover on his mattress to protect against occasional night-time accidents but we have been through a couple of them because they rip, and they also are noisy, and I know it would interfere with my sleep if I had to sleep on plastic.
Protect-a-Bed offers products that help combat all of these issues. I talked a bit about the dust mite issue a week or so ago in this post: You do not sleep alone – Dust Mite Protection GIVEAWAY and Alyson talked about the waterproof issue in her post: A Good Night’s Sleep and a Happy Morning! – Mattress Protection.
Protect-A-Bed offers allergy relief products in the form of mattress protectors and pillow protectors. Protect-A-Bed‘s mattress covers are more than just an alternative to mattress pads, they help protect your family from things like bed bugs and protect your mattress from bed wetting and incontinence.
Below is a video I snagged off of YouTube. It is actually from QVC, the shopping network, but does a great job demonstrating the Protect-A-Bed mattress protector and sharing some if its great features. Don’t worry, it’s not very long.
Some of the major points from that video about the Protect-A-Bed mattress protector:
*waterproof
*protects your mattress from spills
*cotton-terry material is soft and comfortable
*high quality
*thin
*contains a “miracle membrane” to prevent anything from penetrating through it
*can make an old mattress new again
*protects against dust-mite allergen transfer
*easy to put on
*works on deeper mattresses
*can be washed in hot water and sterilized and dried in the dryer
*easy to take with you
*does not make you hot when sleeping
Protect-A-Bed recently sent me a twin sized Premium Mattress Protector for my son’s bed, a Premium Pillow Protector for my son, and a crib mattress protector for my daughter.

The pillow protector was easy to get on and zip close, and as a mom this thing is a must-have! I can’t tell you how many time we had to buy a new pillow because it got peed on or thrown up on. Not to mention the idea that those creepy dust mites and bed bugs will be kept AWAY FROM YOUR HEAD!

The mattress protectors were also very easy to get on and I love the fit and feel of them. The idea that my kids are sleeping on clean, hygenic surfaces that not only protects them from dust mites and other allergens but also protects the mattress is simply fabulous!

And the best part is that I truly believe my kids are sleeping better because of their Protect-A-Bed mattress covers. Jake used to wake up with a stuffy nose frequently in the night and has not done that once since I put the covers on his pillow and mattress!
I am going to get myself a set of these to take with me for whenever I stay at a hotel. Imagine what lurks in THOSE mattresses, UGH!

Your Mattress will be the most important piece of furniture you ever purchase. Your physical, mental and daily performances are all directly correlated to the quality of sleep you’re getting. If your waking up with aches or stiffness these are signs that you need a new mattress. Lower back pain can be directly contributed to sleeping on a bad mattress. The older we get the better quality mattress we need. 800 coils on a queen is considered a good quality mattress. Latex is our top selling mattresses and I expect will be for a very long time. Health and comfort wise latex is the best. We will provide you with a top quality Canadian made mattress at the lowest possible price.

Very good product and a great investment.
I need a Protect-A-Bed mattress cover because I was tested for allergies, and was allergic to about 90 different things. My daughter has inherited my allergies. She’s been to the ER twice in the last thirty days with low oxygen levels because she can’t breathe due to allergies.

Only two beds and one crib need covering unless they have them for dog beds then you would need to add three more….
