Meet Pepsi Max.
0 calories.
Cool can.
But what’s the catch?
I don’t generally drink soda but recently had a craving and bought a 24 pack of Pepsi Max. I was mostly interested in the 0 calories and frankly the black packaging was more appealing that the traditional Diet Pepsi. I examined the box to try and figure out why is was different, but came up empty. I bought it anyway figuring maybe the “MAX” stood for maximum flavor or something cool. An attractive new way to market diet soda.
Then the headaches started.
Bad headaches.
All day, made me want to do absolutely nothing but sit in the dark by myself, headaches.
So I wondered if the soda was to blame. Since I hardly ever drink soda, even though I was only drinking one a day with my lunch, maybe it was not sitting right with me.
So I stopped drinking it but also decided to search for what “MAX” really meant, and learned that it is actually infused with ginseng and has almost twice the caffeine as regular Diet Pepsi.
Yeah no wonder my head hurt.
It took about three days of not drinking it for the headaches to go away.
But the question is, why don’t they tell you that on the packaging? Sure, it does list the caffeine content in fine print with the nutritional information, but that only would send up a red flag if I happened to know what the normal caffeine content of regular Diet Pepsi was.
I know now…
Did you know about Pepsi Max? Did you know what the “MAX” stood for? Am I a bozo for not realizing it when I bought it?

Woah, I had no idea!!!
Wow I did not know that and bet many others didn’t either! Thanks Kim!

Honestly, I bypass anything that has 0 calories on the label, no calories = nasty flavor. but it would be cool if they’d pump the “max” into the regular Pepsi. I’d be all over extra caffiene in a heart beat.
Well, I am HORRIBLE with caffeine! I drink a Rockstar EVERYDAY and I know I should not. It is BAD. I get headaches all the time. It is hard to stop though when the boost is so much needed! ugh! I did not know that about Pepsi Max, but then again I prefer Coke :) Let us know what Pepsi says!
OMG I am so glad I read this – that’s crazy. I guess Max means Max caffeine.
I’m not a diet soda drinker because it tastes funny to me. I’m not a fan of that diet drink aftertaste. I don’t drink Pepsi either, so I wouldn’t know what he Max was all about, but you’d think the caffeine content would need to be more prominently labeled.
I’ve decided soda in general is bad. I had a craving for Dr. Pepper last week. I got a 2 liter, and by the time I was done with it at the end of the week, my calves were getting charlie horses, I was more tired and achy than usual, and I just overall felt crappy.
I totally agree that soda is certainly not the best choice for our bodies, in fact I usually don’t drink it, but I just had a craving. I don’t mind Diet and like that it is no calories.
I since bought a 2-liter of Diet Pepsi Lime and have a glass with lunch and I feel fine.
I’m sure the phase will pass for me though LOL.
Wow, that should BE on the packaging! Diet drinks scare me….
It should totally be on the packaging. Soda in generally isn’t healthy, diet or otherwise…but I’ve learned that complete deprivation leads to extreme measures LOL so I give in every once in awhile.
Yea, I cut the majority of my soda consumption out about 5 years ago. Now the only time I have one is when I am out. I don’t buy it to have at the house anymore unless we are having a get together.
Guess that’s why I stick with Diet Dr. Pepper. I only drink sodas occasionally too so this would have thrown me for a loop. And this is a new thing yet I’ve seen no advertising for it. Thank you for the heads up.
Ok, now i want Diet Dr. Pepper LOL. That is what my sister drinks, like exclusively.
I had no clue either until I read this. I think that I might try it now but I think that is deceptive not to put it on the packaging. At least a comparison of the two or something on the can.
Sorry it gave you a headache. That really sucks!
If it wouldn’t cost more to ship than to just go out and buy it, I’d send you what I have left LOL.
I would contact Pepsi and complain.
I am going to do that right now. At least they should give me money back.
