Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution

“America, wake up!”

Have you seen Jaime Oliver’s Food Revolution?

I caught the first episode and was thoroughly intrigued, but I missed last weeks.  It is on again tonight on ABC at 9/8 c.

The show is based upon the premise, according to Jaime, that America’s children are likely to live shorter lives than their parents because of the food they eat.  Jaime, is a world-renowned chef and best-selling author and wants to inspire communities to take a stand and change the way they eat.

Check it out:

I agree with a lot of what he says and I am trying to make it a point to buy only REAL food.  Instead of boxed dinners, buy the ingredients and make my own casserole.  It takes more time, but in the end it is better for all of us.  I am concerned, however, that it will cost more, but I think if I shop sales and really pay attention I should be able to pull it off.  The hardest part will be cooking it without burning it.  I’m more of a “heat up” mom than a “from scratch mom”.

…off to scour the web for recipes.

What are your thoughts about Food Revolution and some of the statements made by Jaime Oliver?  Have they caused you to re-think your menus and make changes, or do you think he’s over-reacting?

Elementary school teachers – what does this mean?

My son came home with a Guided Reading Level paper today.  And I have no idea what it means.

He is in kindergarten.

So he is a Q.

Am I correct to assume the levels run from A to Z?

What grade level is Q?

What grade level is Z?

Does it mean anything that he is Q and target level is B?

I know he reads with second-graders at school but they never explained what these levels mean.

Does anyone know?

Feeding my new-found Twlight obsession…

I just won the New Moon 2-disc Special Edition DVD from the Peace. Love. TWILIGHT! blog and CD WOW!

Doing a happy dance!

Who wants to come over for a viewing party when I get it?

It has the movie plus over 4 hours of extras, so bring lots of wine and snacks, it’s going to be a long, fun night!

Now I just have to figure out how to send the husband and the children away….

hmmm…

Poor dejected Marshmallow Peep

Abby tried Peeps for the first time today.  She kept saying “eat bunny” so I gave her one.  A few minutes later she came back with it, minus it’s ear and said “you eat, mommy – you eat”.  I guess she prefers playing with bunnies rather than eating them.

Am I too old for a major life change?

Because I really, really think I want to become a vampire.

I just finished reading the last book in the Twilight series and wow.  I never expected to get as involved in them as I have.  Honestly I thought the series was for kids, but they all were captivating and really fantastic stories to read.  Not many things can get me so absorbed that I dream about it and I certainly haven’t read 4 long books in 2 weeks in a very long time.

Breaking Dawn

I wonder if there will be any more books….

Cause it’s like a drug.
