We interrupt your previously scheduled post…

I’m not a deep or publicly emotional person. I’m just an “Accidental Mommy” and have always kept that kind of stuff to myself because “emotions are for girly-girls”. It’s not that I don’t have deep emotion, I just generally save it for when my husband most needs some good nagging.

Well, keep your panty hose on, because it’s gonna get a little bit mushy.

(by the way, this is another of those late night posts, and WHAT DID MY DOG EAT? He is killing me.)

My daughter will be 8 months old on July 27th. It is seriously hard to believe the time has gone by so quickly. Every day something about her amazes me. I mean, I made her! (well, Ed was there too I guess…) She has recently started crawling. It started out as the funniest “slither-crawl” with her actually covering some ground but not being able to move her arms and legs together so she would end up on her belly between every move. We encouraged her so much for the few weeks she did that. In hindsight, why did we do that? Now she is at full blown, “I’m getting up and leaving this room and you have to chase me and keep me out of trouble” stage.

Vents are people too

This is my daughter’s new best friend:

air vent

So is this:

air vent

And so are the numerous others she has recently discovered through the house.

When she spots one, she squeals and makes fast work of getting over to it. Then she scratches her fingers across it and talks and coos at it.

And we spent how much on actual baby toys???

UPDATE: SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE POST FOR AN UPDATE!

As many of you know, we recently lost our German Shepherd Max. He actually had a long battle with an infection and the pain just got to be too much so we “sent him to Rainbow Bridge” as they say. You can see my tribute to him here: In Loving Memory - Max. Thank you everyone for all the wonderful sympathy and kind words about Max.

Anyhow, we still have another dog, Simon, that we raised from a wee pup of 8 weeks old.

Here is Simon as a puppy:

Mother of the year!

smoking womanLast night we went shopping.

At a mall.

All of us.

Well, not the dog.

Seriously.

A MALL!

I can’t tell you the last time I was at a mall.

Probably around the time most of the other patrons were BEING BORN!

Jeez, I feel old.

Well, not as old as Lori. I’ll never be as old as Lori.

This got really off topic.

Forgive me, it’s 3:30 am as I write this.

You gotta love inspiration that strikes when you should be sleeping, not to mention the hungry baby I just fed.

So.

Back to the business at hand.

We saw a woman while driving to the mall who did not appear to be a careful nor a considerate driver. She was weaving in and out, not maintaining a constant speed and simply being a highway nuisance. At one point she passed us up and I noticed she was driving with no hands, smoking a cigarette with the left hand and “texting” (man, I’m old) with her right. AND SHE HAD KIDS IN THE CAR!

Am I just getting so old and uptight (well, I’ve always been uptight) or was this just the most stupid behavior on the planet??? Did I mention the speed limit was 70 and she had to be going faster than that since she passed MY HUSBAND and he drives like Mario Andretti?

Ok, I’m done.

In search of farmers and fleas, careful what you wish for…

famerThis weekend we decided to go out for breakfast and then visit a Farmers Market and a Flea Market. We’re in a sorta small town, and made the drive about 20 or so minutes to get to all three which were located relatively near each other.

It was not a day that will go down in history as anything other than a big waste of time!

There was an X-Files once where Mulder said to Scully something like “it will be a nice trip to the forest” and she ended up almost being eaten alive by bugs.

I now know how she felt.

A little word of advice…

If you place a can of beer inside the ice reservoir in your freezer, DO NOT use the ice crusher dispenser to get crushed ice.

You will get a crushed beer can and beer flavored ice.

Seriously.

Someone in my house just learned that the hard way.

It wasn’t me.

My Energizer Emergency Kit

A couple of weeks ago I posted about an emergency kit I won from Energizer at Lille Punkin’ Reviews. You can read the post here: I’ve Gone and Done it Again.

I received my kit and it was filled with a bunch of wonderful safety goodies! They sent enough for one person, but the backpack is big enough that I can go out and get the duplicate items I need for every member of the family and they will all fit in the bag.

Here are a couple photos of the emergency kit:

Every family really should consider making their own emergency kit and include additional things like water and the other items listed in the original contest post at Lille Punkin’ Reviews.

Oh how I love the internet!

A couple of weeks ago, I entered a giveaway at Wired for Noise for an Electric Double Breast Pump. The other day I received an email telling me that I won! With a pregnant sister and sister-in-law, it will go to good use!

I also recently entered a giveaway at Life is Like Champagne for a British design t-shirt from Charlie and Sarah’s shop. I received an email this weekend telling me I was the winner! I let Jake pick and he picked a t-shirt with a Mini Cooper on it.

Thank you to both sites for the giveaways!

Help a new mom out - Does she need a mobile?

My sister-in-law Jenny (not the Jenny injured by fireworks) is expecting her first baby and asked a question in the comments of this post: A Great New Site: Newbaby.com and I thought I’d turn it into its own post so that all the other great moms out there can help her out.

Here is her question:

I have a question for all the experienced mommies out there. I was talking to Kim yesterday and told her that I was in a little funk because Carlos and I registered for some baby things and I didn’t get my first choice bedding because it didn’t have a mobile that matched. I thought that a mobile just sort of went with every baby nursery and that it needed one. However, Jake never slept in his crib and Abby liked her mobile for about 2 weeks and now she likes the things that hang on the inside of the crib that she can press buttons and lights up n stuff. So my question to other moms..is a mobile really necessary?

So what do you think? Is a mobile really necessary? Please vote and explain your answer in a comment if you can!

Teddy Grahams Trail Mix - a review

Teddy Grahams Trail Mix

My son has a seriously warped sense of what the whole point of mail is. We have received enough food and food samples in the mail that I really think he believes that is what the mail is for.

Well, the other day was no exception.
