The Wind that Dogs Make

Have you ever been in a room with a dog and heard little puffs of wind and wondered what the noise was?

As I was sitting here while my daughter was STILL SLEEPING (hooray) I kept hearing this little noise that kind of sounded like the little puffs of air from the old glaucoma eye tests.

Poof!

Poof!

Poof!

“What is that?” I thought to myself?

Then I noticed an odor………………………..

If you are a blogger you likely spend a lot of time noticing other people’s themes and then questioning the attractiveness and layout of your own theme.

At least daily I personally see a theme that I envy!

I would imagine most bloggers use the numerous FREE themes that are available on the web and tweak them as much as they can to make them a bit more personalized. I know that is what I have done here on What’s That Smell?.

If you use Wordpress and are a theme junky like me, you now have the opportunity to win a Premium Theme at WP Theme Designer.

So this is what 8 hours of sleep feels like!

For the first in FOREVER my daughter slept for over 8 hours straight last night. She actually did it once before but she was tiny and it was a major fluke.

Up until now she’d still been getting up at least every 3 hours to eat. She is on a special formula that is so simple I believe it makes her hungry faster than traditional formula.

Anyhow, I GOT ALMOST 8 HOURS OF UNINTERRUPTED SLEEP! Well, except for the about 40 times I woke up to look at the clock wondering when she was going to get up, but at least I didn’t have to leave my bed! She woke up at 6:15 am, had a bottle and IS BACK IN HER CRIB SLEEPING!

I’m not getting my hopes up that this is anything more than a 1 time thing, but WOW, I feel good!

We made 3 changes last night that are different from our normal routine:

  1. I cleaned her nightmare of a messy room. Garage sale type stuff had piled up to where only a narrow path led to the crib.
  2. I turned off the humidifier I usually leave running so her nose won’t get too stuffy. It was empty and I was too lazy to fill it.
  3. My husband slept downstairs because before Abby fell asleep, and all day earlier she was crabby and I envisioned needing to sleep next to her to calm her down. Daddy’s who work need their sleep so he went downstairs.

So the question is, do I repeat each of these tonight to try an ensure the same result?

For right now all I can say is who cares? I GOT SOME SLEEP!

Got $1,600? Spend a day in a condo…

What job do these people have and how does my husband get one?

I found this site that lists condos for sale or rent around the world and being sort of an armchair traveler I was looking to find one in my price range.

Well, fat chance there, but I did find one condo hotel that rents for $1,600 a day in Florida. The Regent Bal Harbour is in Bal Harbour, FL which looks just beautiful, but at those rates we could pay off our house in 4 like months.

A pain in my neck!

When I sleep, I usually develop a pain in my neck by the next morning. Now I realize that it could be caused by the people I live with, but there is a slight chance it has to do with either the way I sleep or what I sleep on.

Currently I use a memory foam type contour pillow which is supposed to help with neck pain. I said “supposed” to help because it doesn’t help me. If it did, this whole post would be made up and a waste of time.

So anyway, I’ve tried different things but nothing seems to work. I’ve seen those corny commercials for adjustable beds on TV and wonder if one of those might help.

adjustable bed

If not, at least it will be more comfortable to read in bed and the kids will have fun playing with it…heck, I might have fun playing with it!

adobe

Adobe, maker of Photoshop and Flash, is looking for young adults 18-29 to participate in a three-month private advisory panel for a new consumer product currently in development.

As a panel member, not only will you get the inside scoop and sneak peeks, you will get to influence and help us build an amazing product that is being made especially for you and your peers. Who knows? You may even be recognized or featured when the final product is released! You will also be able to connect with other panel members like yourself who are in the local area or across the country.

Some ways you will be asked to participate: Expressing your opinions on product features and marketing campaigns, using the product to do an activity, etc. (For most of the activities, you can complete them without leaving the house.)

Time commitment: About 1-2 hours a month for three months from July thru September (Most of the activities will take less than an hour.)

As a token of appreciation, active panel members will receive a gift of $150 for their participation at the end of the three-month period. You may also have the possibility to receive a few smaller prizes along the way!

For questions, please contact us at usability@adobe.com

I read that it is for college students and that it is a long survey. Sounds worth it though!

The Devil is in the Details…huh?

I’ve heard people say “the devil is in the details” all my life but never really understood it until now.

The basic meaning of the saying is this: Even the grandest project depends on the success of the smallest components.

Last November we moved into a “newer” house. It was barely 2 years old and we bought it from the family that had it built and picked out all the interior finishes and fixtures - the details.

You really don’t realize the impact of certain things until you actually use them. When we looked at the house, we knew we weren’t really in love with certain light fixtures, bathroom fixtures and some other things, but we figured we could live with them until we change them.

The more we get used to this house, the more I realize the saying is true!

Here’s an example to illustrate what I mean.

Let’s imagine you have a bar and are looking for bar faucets.

You can choose this: GOOD DETAILS

Or you can choose this: BAD DETAILS

I may be exaggerating the poor fixture choices…a bit…but although they may not actually look that bad, they give the impression of looking that bad!
