Oink

oinkHave you hugged a pig today?

How many of you are paranoid about this whole swine flu thing?

I know I am, especially because my daughter seems to catch EVERYTHING.

I’ve seen the news footage of the people in Mexico walking around with masks on and I have to admit I am concerned.  With all the medical advances and hygeine standards we have, there is a chance that we can catch a flu originally contracted from a PIG?  What is going on?

I’m going to go into the bubble making business because pretty soon there will be a market for parents who decide the only way to raise their kids is inside one!  UGH!

Did these things happen when I was a kid and I just never paid attention?  Do all parents go through this, generation after generation?  Does the media make it worse because of the fact that through cable and internet we have 24/7 access AROUND THE GLOBE?

Ok, enough questions….crap…do any of the kids in Jake’s preschool class own pigs?  How do I know if these pigs have traveled internationally or not?  I’m going to have to set up a decontamination chamber outside our door….

  1. Any flu can be dangerous, but you can’t live your life in a bubble. I’ll be taking common sense measures and I figure that’s the best I can do. If it turns out that there is a major outbreak in our area, than I’ll even go the mask bit if I’m in a crowded area. In my case, It doesn’t matter that there’s not a shot for this one yet, I can’t/won’t get one. Although I’m not allergic to eggs, the shot itself decreases my immunity and I’m sick all winter.

I also believe the media has made it out to be much worse than it is and I think they are the main cause for the emergency rooms being overrun with people who think they might have the flu (many of them don’t even know real flu symptoms)

Sad but somewhat true…at least according to our media! Great post!

  3. vw bug says:

Not worried yet. No cases found here so far. It will be different once they found some here.

  4. Thanks for expressing my concerns so succinctly!

  5. Nicole says:

There’s a case in Indiana!!!!! Kim be afraid, be very afraid.

  6. Tamara B. says:

I am very concerned with two children to worry about

  7. No cases around here, no pigs either. At least no pigs in my immediate neighborhood. I do live in Texas, so you never know what you may find living in someone’s backyard.

  8. I am not too concerned…I am sure that would change if there were actual cases found around me.
