Make a McDonald’s-ish Shamrock Shake at home
Every year, when I first see the signs go up on the McDonald’s message board under the golden arches, I stop and get myself a shamrock shake. This year, I had 2 little monkeys with me who also wanted shamrock shakes. It cost me almost $10 for those 3 shakes! They are yummy, and I only get one a season, but still…a bit costly now that I’m not just buying one.
So I scoured the web for a recipe to make them myself. I figured, vanilla ice cream and mint extract couldn’t be too hard.
Copycat McDonald’s Shamrock Shake
Ingredients:
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream or soy ice cream
- 1 1/4 cups 2% low-fat milk or soymilk
- 1/4 teaspoon mint extract
- 8 drops green food coloring
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth.
- Stop blender to stir with a spoon if necessary to help blend ice cream.
- Pour into 12-ounce cups and serve each with a straw.
That’s it! Simple, fun, tasty and probably a lot cheaper to make them at home.
Note: for a thicker shake use more ice cream and less milk.

What a great idea! Those are so good, now we can have them all year ’round! :)
Oh, yum! I can’t wait to get the ingredients to make these!
This looks fairly easy and yummy too!
I’ll have to remember that for next year’s ST. Patrick’s day. the big girls will get a kick out of it.
Oh man! You are trying to make me fat! I love that shake!
Don’t really trust McD ingredients…they don’t make it like they used to…better to make it at home!
We make these at home sometimes and they are way better than McDonald’s!
I missed it for st pattie’s day but I love mint so I will make this when ever I want :D
..and btw I don’t think that the actual McD shakes are all that great anymore..nothing is like it used to be, at least at home you know what ingredients are going into it!
Sounds deeelish!
