I was recently sent a copy of the History Channel DVD Life After People to review and I found it very intriguing. It is visually compelling, contains interesting expert interviews and is a haunting look at the end of civilization.
What is it about:
Life After People explores what would happen to our man-made world should people one day cease to exist. It uses the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in 1986 as a case study and combines feature film quality visual effects and tops experts in the major scientific fields to bring a vivid and riveting journey to life.

My take on it:
I really enjoyed the video. So much so, that I’ve watched it twice so far and I know I still could watch it again and see even more that I missed. The visual effects are so stunning and real that you are drawn in and can really experience “life after people.”
The Architect in me was fascinated with the effects of nature on buildings, bridges and other structures. I was also interested in the segments about energy and how long our power plants would continue to run before shutting down.
It really did show like a feature film with the grand special effects and the expert predictions and hypothetical situations left my brain spinning at the possibilities. The film explores a few methods by which people might actually disappear and it really makes you feel that the hypothetical isn’t really that far fetched.
Overall, it was kind of creepy to explore the possibility of the end of human life on our planet, but it was really fascinating to watch the effects of it and to hear the science behind it.
