Kung Fu Fighting

Don’t you love when a song triggers a great memory?  It doesn’t matter if the song is great or terribly cheesey.  The memory just makes you smile.  Last night, we heard the song Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas, and all I can think about is Kim’s wedding.

[audio:Carl Douglas-Kung Fu Fighting.mp3]

Kim’s black belt absolutely required that the song be played.  While we were dancing, I looked around and realized that Don was dancing not only with every woman in the bridal party, but every woman on the dance floor!  I just picture all of us in those long, black dresses, and Kim looking beautiful and slightly tipsy.  To say that Don has a dance style all his own, is an understatement.  His nickname is Mr. Travolta.  What fun!

That then lead me to remember the bridal party dance.  The bride and groom danced, then the DJ called for the best man and matron (isn’t that a terrible name?) of honor to join them on the dance floor.  I began chasing the best man around the dance floor like a lovesick high school girl, trying to comply with the DJ’s orders.  Every time I got close to him, he would dart around the other side of Kim and Ed.  My self-confidence was beginning to falter.  Am I that repulsive that the man will not even dance with me?  And, a sailor to boot!  Turns out it wasn’t my problem.  His wife wouldn’t let him dance with anyone else.  Aiy-yi-yi.

So, I’m just standing there feeling like a dork, for what seemed like an eternity.  Finally, my heroine came to the rescue.  No, that’s not a typo. Yes, heroine.  Kim offered to be my partner, and I agreed.  No kissing, though.  And, I made sure she kept her hands above my waist.

Ok, so Lori had me digging through my wedding photos to share this historic event with you all, and all I could do was take pictures of the photos in my wedding album because the album weighs like 60 lbs and trying to scan them was not an option. I haven’t looked at my wedding album in years so I got caught up and took more pictures than Lori originally asked for. Because I could.

One of my favorites from our album.

The entire wedding party.
My dress was supposed to have sleeves but they screwed them up.

The start of my drunken stupor in the Limo right after the ceremony.

Pictures from the stupid dancing issue that should have had me punching someone….ugh, Lori why didn’t you let me punch her?

The top picture is me sampling everyone’s drinks (on top of the bottle of champagne I killed in the limo), the bottom picture is me dancing with Lori’s husband because she didn’t care how many other women he danced with ;)

Lori’s husband Don “kung-fu fighting” with EVERYONE on the dance floor.

Gotta have a close-up

Lori, you totally brought back memories I had forgotten about. I can’t find a close-up of the cake topper…I know I have one. We walked in to the reception to the theme from the X-Files and our cake topper was Mulder and Scully in a top-hat and veil that I made myself from the action figures. Weird, yes…but much better than the plain ugly ones I found in the stores. And Scully even had a bouquet of roses! I am not a nerd.

And yes, Don is in like every picture in our album! A few of them he is in the background in the dark. Kinda creepy.

BTW, Lori this was 8 1/2 years ago! Do you know how old that makes me feel? Still, I will never be as old as you.
~Kim~

  1. You had a very happy and funky wedding! The man doing the “kung-fu fighting” in the photo looks so funny! I also had some funny photos in my wedding. sigh…It’s nice to reminisce those memories.

  2. Lori says:

Thanks, Kimmy!! Too funny! Yeah, you should have punched her, especially after the shot prank. Did you notice that in the picture of you and Don, Jane is bent over laughing? And, the one with Koree, Laurin looks like she’s asking me, “Is he always like that?”

BTW, don’t freak about 8.5 years. We just had our 18th anniversary. Of course, we married when we were 13! :>

  3. Rain says:

A Mulder cake topper?!? That is fabulous! I’m getting married in October and I’m trying my best to make it our own. Since the fiance knows I crush on Duchovny, though, I don’t think he’ll be part of our wedding plans. ;O)
