When I was pregnant with my son in 2003 I gained almost 60 lbs. I ate a LOT of bean burritos (my lone craving) but not that many! After he was born I probably lost about half that easily from breast feeding and just the life of a new mom. The other 30 lbs hung on for a couple of years after that.
I started Weight Watchers in the spring of 2006 and by the end of the summer I had lost over 30 lbs and weighed less than I had on my wedding day. I never felt better and vowed to never gain that much weight again, pregnant or not.
In early 2007 I became pregnant with my daughter and actually lost weight. I had such bad morning sickness that I was dehydrated and sick for the first 3 months. Eventually I ended up gaining 70 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight which means I actually gained more than that because I had lost at least 5 in the first trimester. I did not over eat, in fact, I made a conscious effort to eat well, but I think my body is just inclined to weight gain during pregnancy.
After Abby was born in Nov. 2007, it took quite a few months to lost about 40-45 lbs but that has left me with at least 25 to still lose. While I did not officially re-join Weight Watchers because of time and money constraints, many of their products remain an integral part of my diet in my struggle to lose weight.
Recently, I was sent a box of Weight Watchers Golden Sponge Cakes with creamy filling to review. I had tried some of their other snack cakes but had not tried this particular flavor.
Nutrition information:
Each one of these Golden Sponge Cakes has the following:
*80 calories
*3 grams of fat
*15 mg cholesterol
*80 mg sodium
*3 grams of fiber
*7 grams of sugar
*1 gram of protein
Where Weight Watchers is concerned, the fat, calories and fiber are the determining factor for how to determine if a snack is a diet breaker or not. Each Golden Sponge Cake is equivalent to 1 point value on the Weight Watchers scale which means that for a snack roughly the size of a “Twinkie” with the same flavor and satisfaction, you are only using 2 of your daily points. That’s a great snack! Each Weight Watchers Golden Sponge Cake is about .88oz so they are not huge, but they do a great job satisfying your sweet tooth and make you feel indulgent while helping you achieve weight loss success because of their nutritional facts.
My son and I both enjoyed the Golden Sponge Cakes. He told me that they taste good and kept asking for another one the next day. If you suffer from an incurable sweet tooth like I do and find yourself indulging in too many high calorie snacks, the Weight Watchers Golden Sponge Cakes with creamy filling are a great alternative to help you stick with your weight loss goals or maintain your current weight. I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that these are the best tasting cakes ever, but as someone who has tried many a “diet friendly” snack, they certainly top my list and are more than worth the 1 points value.
Oh and BTW, my daughter was 7lbs, 10oz. Not that I would have wanted the experience of delivering a 70 baby (or baby hippo), is it really fair that she was not even 8 lbs?

Thanks, I enjoyed reading your post. It?s nice to see someone writing something worth reading. Take care.

Bridgette,
I haven’t tried those, I’ll have to get some this weekend at the grocery store. Thanks!
I’ll have to try that one! I am hanging onto about 8 extra pounds from pregnancy. Have you tried the Hostess MiniMuffins? The Coffee Cake ones are good and only one point!
