Here I y’am!!

I’m here, I’m still alive!!  I’ve been lurking about, not getting much of anything done.  Here are some of last weeks highlights.

I’m the only one in the house with a cold.  This is good news, but I still feel terrible.  The only OTC cold medication that works (Tavist) has been removed from the shelves.  It’s so much fun to stand in the middle of the drug store and not be able to find something, while struggling to breathe.

Tuesday, I had to get a dental crown; luckily a root canal was not involved.  First, I scare the dentist by questioning which tooth he is going to fix after he has numbed my gums.  Then, within minutes of the second shot, my heart starts pounding and I start to get a bit panicked.  Apparently, sometimes the drug can get into your bloodstream a bit quickly and make your heart race.  The dentist quickly calmed me down, I was not having a heart attack.  That was fun.

A couple of weeks ago, our (at least) 12 year old, 27″ TV started to go.  Well, if we need a new TV, we might as well get a NEW (read BIG) TV.  So, we are the proud owners of a new 42″ plasma tv.  Because it’s digital, we actually get more than just four fuzzy stations.  Eleven stations in crystal clear digital clarity.  Of course, this new gianormous tv does not fit in our tv stand, so we’re off on another search.  We found a really great console at Sam’s.  The great thing about it is that not only was it already assembled, but we got it at Sam’s price.  The bad news:  it weighs 250 lbs!  We could barely get it in the house.  But, I really like it.

Meanwhile, we’re trying to finish up the last couple weeks of school.  Madeline volunteered to give a book report at our girls’ history club.  She did this without thinking that she had to read the 150 page book about a slave girl’s escape to Canada, and write and practice the report before the next meeting.  Let me just say, it’s a bit difficult to read a book about a young slave girl being whipped, separated from her mother, and a profuse use of the ‘n-word’ to a five year old.  It brought up some very interesting conversations.

Don was invited to speak at a high school in Chicago, so we all went up for a couple of days.  We had a lot of fun, but let me say “Ouch!” to Chicago’s hotel tax and parking fees.  Almost $90 a day.

That’s it for last week.
