ENDED Healthy Kitchenware Stainless Steel Lunch Carrier – review and GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED AND COMMENTS ARE CLOSED

Winner:

I like the Klean Kanteen 27 oz bottle with sports cap. Thanks for the giveaway.

healthy kitchenwareMost moms have heard the bad press about plastic baby bottles and are now aware of BPA and its potential negative effects, but how many of us have stopped to consider the rest of our kitchen where plastic is concerned?

Healthy Kitchenware is an online store that was started by a woman who developed endometriosis. Through research about health, nutrition and environment, she discovered that plastic can leach onto our foods and enter our bodies in the form of hazardous chemicals.

From the website:

Healthy Kitchenware’s mission is two-fold:

Product Mission – To empower you to take charge of your health by providing cookware and storage containers made of materials that do not leach chemicals into food or drink.

Community Mission – To provide community support through tithing.

I was offered an opportunity to try a Stainless lunch carrier with sauce container from Healthy Kitchenware and I was very anxious to participate. I have been suspicious of the plastic containers we use in our kitchen, and my mom has made the change and avoids them as well.

Healthy Kitchenware

The Healthy Kitchenware website describes the lunch carrier like this:

Stainless steel rectangular container with stainless steel lid includes a small container with plastic lid (polypropylene). The stainless steel lid is held tight by metal clasps.

This is ideal to bring lunch to school or work. The smaller container can hold your salad dressing, dipping sauce, etc. Or you can place your croutons or cheese so they do not get soggy from your salad, pasta, meal or other dish.

- Fits inside most lunch boxes.
- Stainless steel does not leach toxins unto your food.
- Dishwasher safe.
- 6.4″ (length); 4.92″ (width); 2.32″ (height)

Price: $15.99

Healthy KitchenwareI was struck by two things right off the bat when I opened the box; the size and the weight of the thing. All packaged up, the sauce container fits right inside the lunch carrier and together they were heavy (not heavy like a big book you don’t want to carry, heavy like thick and durable), yet the lunch carrier itself is not much larger than a normal-size paperback book. The gauge of the stainless steel seems quite thick and overall they both appear to be very durable containers. More durable and of better quality than some of my stainless steel pots and pans!

I’m not going to go much into the size, because it really could inspire a post of its own, but the size is IDEAL for a lunch carrier, even though I was surprised by how small it was. This product was made in Thailand and there is a lot to be said not only for the types of food they eat (a lot of raw foods, vegetables, and fresh meats) but for the portion sizes as well. Healthy KitchenwareNow this container isn’t necessarily meant to contain your entire lunch if you are a big eater with no plans to change. It will easily fit into a lunchbox or bag so you can put a salad in the container and still have a sandwich or other things with your lunch.

I love that the container is dishwasher safe, and that the sauce container lid is made from polypropylene, which is the plastic that many BPA-free bottles are made from. The container is simple and would be easy to clean even by hand.

I don’t work away from the house anymore, but I still will get a lot of use out of this container. Because I am trying to eliminate plastic containers, I have resorted to saving leftovers in a glass bowl and putting plastic wrap over it. This container will be perfect for storing leftovers and then placing on a glass plate in order to warm them up in the microwave. It’s funny as I write this, concerned over the plastics that I would still use the microwave. Hmmm… any suggestions on how to warm my food the old fashioned way? Better yet, maybe it will inspire to eat more fresh foods that don’t need to be reheated, and provide a way to take them with us when we spend the day running errands.

In addition to the Stainless Steel Lunch Carrier, Healthy Kitchenware carries other stainless steel containers, re-usable sandwich wraps – an earth friendly alternative to plastic sandwich bags, some fun stainless steel dishes for kids, glass baby bottles and more!

I like the glass baby bottles but really liked the three-tier stainless steel lunch carrier. It’s kind of like a bento box.
