I don’t know about your house, but in mine, it seems like television, computers and video games distract ALL of us more than they should.  When it comes to entertainment, it seems like MY attention span is more easily captured watching cartoons and playing snowboarding on the Playstation 2 than it is on the floor playing with blocks or cars. So every once in awhile I come across something that seems like it might be the solution we need to gets us all away from the shiny glowing screens and do something fun that doesn’t involve plugging anything in.  This time it is in the form of two games from the Hasbro Elefun and Friends line of games: Giraffalaff Limbo and Scatterpillar Scramble!

Giraffalaff Limbo

It’s the hilarious bend over backwards game! GIRAFFALAFF’s got himself all tangled up again. You’ll need to crouch, duck, scoot and crawl your way under him as the music plays. But watch out- he’s extremely ticklish! If you knock him down you’ll get goofy giggles going and be out of the game. How low can you go before GIRAFFALAFF lets his laughter loose?

Includes Giraffalaff plaque with 2 clips, 3 foam tubes, electronic module with support tube, 8 leaf bar supports, two 3-piece limbo poles, two bases, spinner and instructions.

This game is a fun limbo game for kids, complete with limbo pole (foam so no one gets hurt), a giraffe that mocks you with laughter when you knock the pole down, and a spinner that determines exactly HOW you are to limbo under the pole (one of 6 different ways).  While you play, there is fun music accompanied by laughter when the Giraffalaff is knocked down. I love the physical aspect of this game.  While not really big enough for an adult, it is fun to try and contort yourself and the kids will find it even funnier than the mocking elephant when you inevitably knock the pole down.  You can get active with your kids and have a great time doing it. This would be a great kid’s birthday party game too.  I could see the kids lining up to play, and being eliminated if they knock the pole down, the last kid left standing wins a prize.  You can keep them from running around crazy during the party and send them home tired! The only improvement I can see, especially because this game is fairly physical, is that that the spinner and Giraffalaff are made from cardboard and I wish they were made completely out of plastic to make sure they can hold up to the abuse.

Scatterpillar Scramble

Wow can you say “hand-eye coordination required”?  While the cute little Scatterpiller dances and wiggles to the music, you have to try and be the first person to get all 8 of their marbles on the Scatterpillar’s hands.  Not as easy as it sounds.  Just when you think you are about to win, one of your already placed marbles will fall. Right now, with an almost two year old I am crazy paranoid about the marbles.  She doesn’t play the game obviously but I’m afraid of one falling and us not finding it until one day Abby does and swallows it.  So right now, this game won’t get played as much as the limbo game will. But this game will be loads of fun for adults and kids and just like with the video games, I’ll probably continue to lose to the six year old.  I have a suggestion too to make the game even more fun.  Allow players to REMOVE someone else’s marbles as part of the game play.
