Getting ready for Christmas, with a little Griswald thrown in.

Last Saturday we set out to see Santa and find our Christmas tree. We had plans to go to the middle school here for their Breakfast with Santa, and then go cut down our own tree.

As they say, plans are made to be broken.

We went to the middle school, paid our $12 ($3 each) and went into the Breakfast. It was packed! We were #109 to see Santa and they still hadn’t gotten through the first 60. They had all kinds of activities but it was not stroller friendly and there were no open seats. So we left $12 poorer and the kids didn’t get to see Santa. We stopped at Walgreens because they were having a free Santa picture but I couldn’t remember what day. It was on Sunday so we made plans to return there the next day.

We then drove…somewhere…with the intent to get a tree. We ended up at a local farm where we did not get to cut it down but we got a great tree.

Below are some photos from our weekend (I wish my camera took better pictures)…

Right about now is when all the lights on the tree went out and my husband had to eventually, completely revamp the way they were tied together because the fuses blew.  In the meantime, though, our dog had another seizure, knocked a tooth loose and needed a bath because the seizure makes him lose control of..well, everything.  At least it happened outside!

My Christmas village...well, I'm not sure 3 buildings makes a village but oh well.

All the decorating is done.

So it wouldn’t be a Christmas to remember without a few hiccups, right?

My favorite thing to do in the evenings now after the kids go to bed is sit in the kitchen with my laptop looking out at the living room with only the tree lights on and listening to Christmas music.

How about you?  How has your Christmas decorating been?  Do you have a real or an artificial tree?  Any Griswald moments yet for you?

That was a grumpy looking Santa! Definitely an adventure you guys had, though! Very nice tree

You got some good pictures! We have breakfast with Santa Saturday. Thankfully it’s by tickets only, so we will get seats, food, and a picture with the big guy himself. The only downfall is we’ll have to get there REALLY early to get decent seats. They got smart and split it into 2 sittings this year too.

  6. That’s so pretty it makes me hate my tree even more, its fake and small and yours is so very green!

  7. Stefanie says:

Oh they look so cute decorating and undecorating (lol) the tree. Poor Abby looks terrified of grumpy Santa though. :( And poor Simon! That’s so sad.

LOVE your tree; it’s so pretty! We have an artificial tree but we love it. Maybe next year we’ll surprise the kids and get a real one.

  8. Jennifer says:

Beautiful tree and awesome memories!!! My trio would have considered themselves lucky if they didn’t get to see Santa, as they screamed the entire time they were near the poor man :-).

I like that photo, Jake admiring his work. We usually get a live one, this is the first year that we did not put up right after thanksgiving., seems every weekend it rained or the kids were feeling good, Have to break down and go this weekend. i have the ornaments all dug out and stack ready to unpack.

I agree with you on quiet time at night, just with the lights, nice quiet me time.
