Kroger wants you to “Go Green” with them by entering their Design a Reusable Shopping Bag Contest. Kroger believes that simple choices can help make for a greener world, and one of the ways they encourage this is by using reusable grocery bags instead of plastic. Kroger takes their role as one of America’s largest retailers seriously and they have committed themselves to being responsible stewards of the environment. For information on their efforts to reduce energy consumption in their stores, check out their “Our Green Efforts” page.
Kroger’s Reusable Shopping Bag Contest is fun and easy to enter. Using the simple-to-use design tools, you can create your own unique design and submit it into the contest. After you submit it, you will be sent an email confirmation and a link to share your design with your friends so they can can vote for your design. An expert judging panel will rank the top bag designs, with special consideration given to those designs that have the most votes. Great prizes will be awarded to the top 10 bag designs, with one lucky designer winning a $1,000 Kroger gift card and the chance for their bag design to be sold in stores. Judges will also select four finalists who will receive $250 Kroger gift cards and five runners-up who will receive $100 Kroger gift cards. Kroger has also partnered with Café Press so designers can purchase a reusable bag (and other merchandise) with their design on it.

Even if you don’t have a Kroger store near you, never fear, because many other stores under the Kroger banner are participating as well so there is a good chance there is a participating store near you if you win.
I created a design for the contest and I really enjoyed doing it thinking about the possibilities of actually seeing my design in the stores. You can see it over there on the right. I really believe in using reusable bags as opposed to plastic or even paper. I do admit that I often forget to bring them with me so I have to get better at that, but it is such a small, easy thing we can do to help the environment. Some stores charge .99 cents for them but then give you .5 cents when you come back and use them each time. That will easily pay for the cost of the bag over the lifetime of your grocery shopping, and help the planet at the same time. Win-win! Plus, I love having the bags around because they are more sturdy and I often use them as totes if I need one every now and then.
