Eating Right Kids better-for-you eating philosophy

eatingrightbugsI don’t have to pack lunches for my kids just yet, but I still deal with issues of what to feed my kids for lunch when my son gets home from kindergarten.  Even when I try to keep healthy foods around for myself, the kids don’t always want a salad and frankly I don’t have the skills and rarely have the time to make healthy lunches that satisfy them without complaints.

Recently Safeway launched a line of meals, snacks cereals and drinks for kids that both Moms and kids will love.

From the site:

Eating Right™ Uniting Flavor and Nutrition

Eating Right™ is a new brand of great-tasting, better-for-you foods. You’ll find a wide selection of over 250 Eating Right™ products throughout the store, covering over 20 food categories.

Introducing Eating Right Kids™

Looking for something your kids will want to eat with better-for-kids nutritional benefits? Eating Right Kid™ and Warner Brothers Looney Tunes have teamed up to bring you meals, snacks, cereals and drinks your kids will love—and you’ll feel good about.

Similar to Eating Right™, each Eating Right Kids™ package features the color-coded Spot Your Needs System™ on the front—so you can find important nutritional information in seconds!

Along with great taste and great nutrition, Eating Right Kids™ is fun, too. Because the whole Looney Tunes gang is ready to get kids eating right with games and activities right on the packages!

LOONEY TUNES: TM &© Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

Thanks to Team Mom, I was sent some samples from the Eating Right Kids line to try out and a neat insulated lunch bag.

We received a snack bar, a bowl of fruit, a 100% apple juice and a whole wheat Macaroni & Beef lunch cup.

Jake tried the snack bar, apple juice and lunch cup so far and has asked if we can buy more of “all of them” when we go to the store.

What I like about these products is that they have eliminated high-fructose corn syrup, and at least for the products we tried, contain natural, real ingredients and few, if any, preservatives.  Plus they have decent fiber content too which is very important for a healthy diet!

Parenting is hard, and there are plenty of “licensed” food products out there that kids want merely because they have some popular cartoon character on them.  I’m not opposed to marketing to kids in this way necessarily, but Safeway is doing it in a way that really matters.   By teaming up with Warner Bros.’ Looney Tunes, they really do help parents deal with the daily struggle of providing healthy food for their families.

Now, if only we had a Safeway store around here!
