DVD’s for the Cure – Spread the word, provide hope and healing, win DVD’s!
Mere months before my husband and I got married in June of 2000, we received the news that my soon-to-be Mother-in-Law was diagnosed with breast cancer and was going to need treatment. Needless to say, although we celebrated our wedding like anyone would, there was deeper emotion there, fear, anxiety, sadness over what the future would hold for our family.
Now, over 8 years later, I am ecstatic to be able to say that my Mother-in-Law is in remission. She beat cancer and has been healthy for a few years now.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and for the second year in a row, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and MGM Home Entertainment are joining forces with Susan G. Komen for the Cure on a promotion to raise awareness for breast cancer and provide hope for future generations.
Some statistics from the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month website:
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, it’s estimated that About 178,480 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2007. About 40,460 women will die from the disease this year. Right now there are slightly over 2 million women living in the United States who have been treated for breast cancer.
You can help spread the word by visiting Props and Pans, who have joined the campaign and are offering a set of 15 DVD’s of some of the best romantic comedies ever, that have been specially packaged in pink awareness packaging to a blogger who helps spread the word.

I haven’t had anyone related to me, or close personally diagnosed but I worked in a physicians office and we did reconstructive surgery, (we also did elective surgery) and my cancer survivors were my Favorites! they came in with such a healthy vibrant attitude, they always told me jokes, and made MY day better, that is the only thing I miss about that job. Those elective surgery women, can kiss my booty!
My grandpa and Uncle passed away earlier this year both from cancer, grandpa from lung and uncle from bladder, from smoking earlier in life. so anyone that reads this, please QUIT now!
My godmother has beaten breast cancer and been in remission for years. My sister-in-law’s mom just recently finished her treatments.
That’s just the people in relationships closer to me, I’ve known plenty of others as well.
I’m glad to hear that your MIL is in remission. That’s a really great idea with the movies! We buy tons of DVDS.
My papa(grandpa) died when I was 18 from liver cancer :( He was diagnosed with colon cancer when I was 10 and they only gave him 6 months, but he lived for 8 years! They thought they had it completely removed and he was cancer free, but it had spread to his liver and there was no way they could help after that.
It’s such an awful awful disease. I wish they could find a cure!
