It was a late model pickup truck, not really something people are going to steal, but still.  I was sort of pleasantly surprised to see that.  Clearly since I snapped a fuzzy, not-at-all clear picture of it.  It’s hard to see but the keys are hanging in there, and it was running.  I also looked to see if the door was unlocked and it was.

Lowell farmer Keith Dahl who was shot during the shooting spree in October also identified Amaya as his shooter.

According to Will County, there still is a lot of forensic evidence to sift through, but these two facts strongly point to Amaya as the killer.

I can’t even imagine how the man who ended up shooting Amaya with his own gun during the robbery attempt in order to prtect his baby daughter must feel.  First he’s a hero for preventing the robbery attempt (and who knows what else) but now he may be responsible for helping close the honeybee killer case and finally giving this area a little bit more reason to rest easy this Christmas.

I’d love to send that man a Christmas card!

The article cites an anonymous source that says there wouldn’t be a press conference planned if the investigation hasn’t led to solid evidence against Gary Amaya, the robber and ‘honeybee’ killer suspect.

It would be nice to be able to close this case before Christmas.  A lot of us would rest easier.

From the photo released of the suspect Gary Amaya, he looks a lot less like the sketch than Brian Dorian (the man arrested as a suspect then released) did.

NBC 5 Chicago has released a surveillance video of the tanning salon shooting, showing the customer who acted as a hero by overtaking Amaya and shooting him with his own gun.

Today authorities are searching the man’s house.

Gary Amaya of Rankin, IL attempted to rob the tanning salon in Orland Park but a brave customer stopped him and he was shot with his own gun – a gun that is said to be the same caliber as that of the one used in the Honeybee shootings.

I can’t wait to see a photo of this guy to see how closely it matches the original honeybee killer sketch.

An arrest was made originally but the suspect, a police officer, was released.

We’re slowly returning to normal activities, but it is all dampened by the knowledge that the maniac is still out there.

Last night I learned that Brian Dorian, the suspect they had arrested, had been released and computer evidence somehow shows that he cannot be the killer because he was using his home computer at the time the first shootings happened.

I am glad they released him if he is innocent.  It’s hard enough being innocent and being accused, but adding to that the fact that he is a cop is going to be a harder road for him to slip back into the reality of a normal life.

But.

I really wish he was the guy.

Because now all the fears of having a killer at large who shoots without provocation or motivation have returned.

It’s kind of creepy how much he looked like the artists’ sketch though…

They also indicated they have no clues regarding whether he is still in the area or not.  Rumors yesterday still had him outside of Lowell, but nearby maybe back in Beecher, but none of the rumors have been considered accurate.

There has not been any more shooting.

Today my son is playing in the front yard with his friends.  It makes me nervous, but I just can’t let fear paralyze me.

I pray they find him soon, and especially that no one else gets hurt in the meantime.
