Brother P-Touch Team Home Office – makeover!

Both my husband and I work from home.

At one point, we both shared the extra bedroom in our house but I quickly moved out when I realized I needed to be more central in our home in order to take care of the kids and all the other things that I take care of in any given day.

So while my husband had an entire extra bedroom to stretch out in, I worked from the kitchen island counter.

Both came with their own challenges.

Simply having a large room for an office, does not mean it is organized or easy to find anything.  We had no formal organizational office supplies and my husband resorted to piles, mostly on the floor.  I also resorted to piles which means our counter quickly became taboo for using for anything else, least of all cooking or preparing meals.

When one of us would set something down on our “desk” 5 minutes later is was impossible to find.

Take a look at my husband’s desk a couple of months ago:

As part of the Brother P-Touch Team Home Office with Mom Central, we were given the opportunity to purchase supplies we need to makeover our home office(s) and a Brother P-Touch Labeler to help us add the finishing touches to our organization project.

We started out our makeover with delusions of grandeur.  We talked about a new desk, an overhead hutch, bookshelves, the works.  But we quickly realized that not only was that NOT within our $175 budget, it didn’t get to the heart of our problem – organizing the random piles of papers and things we both had laying around.  So we approached it from less of a spacial problem to more of a detail problem, and began looking for the right set of products that would tackle our “piles.”

We bought file boxes, desk organizers, hanging file organizers, cork board, and some wood to build a couple of small shelves.

And my “desk” after:

It really is a world of difference, not only visually but functionally as well.  There is a place for everything, and we can find it when I need it.  We no longer have piles, and it has saved a lot of time and frustration.

But really, the organizational items we bought are nothing without the labels – they give us a place for everything and allow us to put everything in its place!

As for the Brother P-Tough Labeler itself, it is the easier label maker I have ever used, does everything I need it to do, and the labels so far have held up to our active household.  I even added them to some “non-office” things because they really do make life so much easier.

What in your house needs labels?

My daughter got a labeler for Christmas this year and she loves it. She labels the baby items to keep items of her daughter’s separate from our other little grandchild she does daycare for and another she will start soon. Our desk could sure use some help too, along with the central area we use for school, medical, farm, tax, and other reports that clutters one of our kitchen areas. Also to label organizational bins in our garage for nuts and bolts, electrical and carpentry, garden, etc. Thanks for the great review!
