Recently, BornFree sent me some of their new Twistn’Pop Straw Cups to try out.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and she uses a traditional sippy cup but often asks for a regular cup with a straw, but I never give her one because she simply can’t use it without spilling.  So I was excited to try the new BornFree Straw Cups.  Also, my son at 6 years old can use a regular cup fairly regularly without spilling but there are some instances where it’s easier for him to use a cup with a lid – especially with his sister running around trying to use his stuff.  And he too always wants a straw with his drink.  Plus, they are BPA-free.

So I figured this would be a win-win for us.

For the most part, the cups are great.  They are easy to use, easy to clean because they fully disassemble and when the lid is closed the straw doesn’t leak.  My son asks for this cup every time I give him a drink, and is great for travel and around the house so his sister isn’t spilling his drinks.  My daughter, however, is no longer allowed to use hers because she has learned how to take the clear plastic lid off (the part that twists to hold the straw down when not in use) which causes the liquid to leak out and get between the clear plastic and the colored plastic.  I then have to clean it off and replace the lid, but she only repeats it and makes a mess.  Let me clarify that she is WEIRD.  It takes physical effort and lining it up just right for me to remove it to clean it and it never comes off the first time.   But yet within seconds she has it removed.

So for now, we have put away the pink cup until she is a little bit older and will actually listen to me when I tell her not to take it apart.

I think unless your child is overly dexterous like mine, these cups are a great solution for toddlers and even for older kids where having a straw cup that minimizes spilling is required for certain situations.  So long as they are not taken apart during use, they work really well, are BPA-free and the way they come apart for cleaning ensures that there are no cracks or crevices that don’t get clean.

I received samples from BornFree in order to facilitate my candid review.
