Because It’s Christmas – Group 3 gift unwrapped – Nature Discovery in My Backyard from The Little Environmentalists GIVEAWAY

THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED AND COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED

The Little EnvironmentalistsBecause It's ChristmasThe Little Environmentalists is “committed to developing and publishing children’s environmental education materials to promote environmental awareness, appreciation, knowledge, and stewardship.”

When we were looking for sponsors for our Because It’s Christmas Kids & Charity Giveaway, The Little Environmentalists was a natural fit for the types of products we were looking for. The Little Environmentalists is a company dedicating to publishing educational childrens books that focus on helping kids develop an appreciation for nature.

Their first book is called Nature Discovery in My Backyard.

From the website:

Product Description
Children will use their senses to explore nature. They will smell, hear, feel, and see their way through their own backyard nature discovery. Each page offers a unique look into nature with colorful pictures that will challenge your children to find all that nature has to offer. In the back of the book parents and educators will find amazing tips for going on a nature discovery with their children and students anytime of the year! The Nature Notes in the back of the book provide exciting information about the plants and animals in our nature discovery. This book also links to the Model Early Learning Standards so educators can use this book a a teaching tool.

Nature BookThe book is generally aimed at children 2-6 but can easily be enjoyed by older children, especially those interested in nature. It is laid out simply but contains an educational component on each page and and at the end of the book to help guide and challenge but also to help parents and educators use the book as a tool to learn about all that nature has to offer.

The book is the perfect size and length for kids and the images are appealing. They main “character” is a little girl who is exploring her backyard. The images appear to have been actual photographs that were modified to have a watercolor effect. It is attractive and adds a sense of whimsy that is essential for helping kids explore and expand their imaginations, and keep them interested. The short activities on each page are fun and interesting and even I learned a thing or two reading through it. The back of the book contains “nature notes” and “tips for discovery” to help you help your child learn about nature.

I really think Jake is going to like this book, and it is something I see him reading over and over again. He’s a smart kid and advanced for his age, and he thrives on learning. This book is simple enough for him not to lose interest in the subject matter and smart enough for him to learn something and come back to it time and again.
