A word to the wise – Big Spot Surveys

Make sure you check out my list of  FREE, legit paid survey sites.  I only list companies that I have experience with and I give you the low-down on each one.  And if that’s not enough, you can check out surveypolice.com for ratings and reviews.

Make sure to visit our updated post about Big Spot Surveys for additional information.

I have been seeing commercials lately, mostly on the channels that Jake watches, for a website called BigSpot.com.

I have taken notice because I am a big online survey taker and am usually “in the know” when a new one pops up and I had never heard of this one. They advertise it as a paid survey company, meaning they imply that you get surveys directly from them and receive compensation through them. I’m not going to go into great detail about how paid surveys work, you can read more about that here: free paid survey info; I have all kinds of posts about them.

So I finally got around to checking out BigSpot.com and I want to issue a warning to anyone else who may sign up there. BigSpot.com is NOT a free paid survey company in the sense that they do not appear to administer the surveys or pay you for participation. They collect your information and claim to send you information about other free paid survey companies but in the meantime they have your personal information. You do not need to sign up for any site that claims to collect your demographics in order to match you with paid survey or market research companies. I have links to many of the big survey companies and I don’t collect your information. There are also plenty of other online sources that have EXTENSIVE lists who also don’t collect your personal info. Free Paid Surveys.net is my all time favorite.

Now, I have no proof that BigSpot.com does anything with your personal info other than what they claim, in fact they do have a privacy policy, but why sign up for something that you don’t have to and risk handing out your name, email address and zip code to a third party company for NO REASON?

Mysurvey.com so far is the best survey place to join. You get lots of surveys and free samples too. I have been with them for over 2 years and have made well over $100 doing surveys. It’s only pocket change but if your poor like me, every cent counts and you will never get ripped off by them. They offer to pay you by check, and now through paypal which I just received $20 this last week.

Thank you for this valuable information! It has cleared up a lot of guess work for me concerning bigspot. Presently, I am faced with uncertain financial difficulties, and am simply looking for a way to pay my bills. It seems that none of the “paying survey sites,” really pay. Many of them require a build-up of points instead of a direct build-up of actual monetary value, and often takes too long to get paid. I would have to stay on the computer all day, every day in order to make some decent money. Any suggestions?

      Linda,

I have a list of LEGIT market research companies here: http://accidentalmommies.com/free-paid-surveys/ but you are correct that it’s not often quick and easy to get paid simply because they just add $$ or points slowly – you only get a dollar or so per survey for the most part. I’m not sure it can really pay bills.

I always tell people it makes a good supplement to Christmas shopping, it’s not gonna pay the bills and the key is signing up for as many LEGIT companies as you can and not getting discouraged when you don’t qualify. Some companies like Global Opinion panels give you 5 cents even if you don’t qualify. BUT some people simply aren’t in the right demographics. Parents of young kids seem to do fairly well.

I have found that if I am consistent with taking screeners even if I don’t qualify, some companies do offer higher paying product tests ($10 or $20) and some even offer focus groups ($50-$200) online. But I think they only offer those to their consistent panelists who attempt to take all the surveys offered them.

      Good luck with everything.

Toluna.com is a good survey to sign up with. They send me several emails a day for surveys. The lowest amount of points you can win in a survey is 1,200 and on up You don’t always qualify, but, sometimes you are awarded several a day. They really add up fast. When you acquire 60,000 points, you can cash them in for a $20 check. It does take about 4 weeks to receive it though. You can also go through PayPal with them.

Thanks for all the warnings about this scam!

Thank you for posting this. I was considering signing up for BigSpot myself until I stumbled across your article.

    Thanks again for the warning!

Big Spot is nothing but a scam and a waste of time. Any time they give you a survey to do YOu get about halfway through it and it always sends you back to the home page saying you do not qualify. DON’T waste your time

  7. BigSpot, BigScam, Why does the FCC allow these scammers to operate and run advertising on the airwaves. Their routine is to have you sign up and register with your personal information and promise you cash rewards for participating in various surveys. The catch is after every time you complete a survey,a message appears saying you don’t qualify for this survey. Therefore, you don’t receive any compensation. That’s ok because I gave yhem so much BS information I have scewed all their data. I encourage everyone to do the same. Sign up, give as much false information as possible, and screw them as they have done to all the honest people they have taken advantage of.

  8. thank you so much for that info, i just seen that commercial on tv and i was going for it until i read what you had said about them thanks for the heads up

  9. Nice post. There’s absolutely no point in joining Bigspot.com, especially when you can get join all the panels for free without giving away your personal info. I guess that who ever created the site just wasted a huge chunk of their time!
