A glimpse at my former self…

A post by Lisa at Crazy Adventures in Parenting about how she used to be an artist really got me to thinking about my past. I don’t know that I would have ever called myself an artist, but I certainly spent a lot of time sketching.

I can’t find too many of my sketches, although I know have a ton of them but I did find two. Strange, they were the only two in an otherwise blank sketchbook. I never really thought I was that good of an artist, and I never really liked the fine art aspect of it all that much. I mostly drew portraits and I liked ceramics a lot and anything to do with buildings. I guess that explains why I became an Architect!

Below are the two sketches I found so far. They are from February of 1998 – almost 11 years ago!

I’m not sure if I’m ready to explore those skills again. I think maybe I’m afraid of having lost them…

BTW, I am pretty sure I sketched those from photos in a magazine. They are not of anyone I know.

  1. Wow, you really have talent, too. I read Lisa’s post and have been thinking so much about the girl I used to be before motherhood took a front seat. Great work!

Those are awesome, IMO… I think you need to start up again. No sense in letting talent go to waste.

  3. I can’t even draw stick men lol
however my brother used to sketch all the time and he could make things look so real. He is the only one in my immediate family that could draw and we have no idea where all that talent came from but he passed it down to both of his children because they both can sketch and paint as well. His oldest daughter majored in college for this. You should keep sketching you did a great job :)

  4. Those sketches are amazing! You are truly talented. Now I am someone who can’t draw – even stick people are a stretch. ;)

  5. Michelle says:

Ahem…. I would call you an artist.. nice job! :)

  6. Oh Kim! I’m so glad you found these and shared these with us! Don’t doubt your talent a bit! The detail is incredible!! They are FABULOUS!

I’m serious, we should both get back into it!

  7. You really underestimate your talent Kim. Those are great!

I spent a lot of time sketching myself. So much so that my parents wanted me to go to art school for college, but I didn’t like the idea of ending up as a starving artist.

I hope you are able to find more them, those are great!

  8. BlapherMJ says:
