Keurig Winner

KeurigI discovered coffee back in college. Architecture school is BRUTAL and I spent 5 years (it was a 5 year Bachelors of Architecture program, I’m not slow…) pulling many an all-nighter. Coffee and I became best buddies for it’s ability to keep me awake and I have been drinking it every day ever since.

When I worked full time, I would usually stop a couple of times a week at Dunkin’ Donuts. I loved their coffee, especially the flavored varieties. Now that I stay at home, I not only cannot justify the cost of flavored coffee, I give complete control of the coffee machine to my husband. Which means no flavored coffee and the stuff he does make is pretty much so thick that you have to chew it. I don’t like super strong coffee and my husband insists on “coffee flavored coffee.”

So, ever since I lost control of the coffee maker, I have been looking for a way to regain some power over my coffee drinking. Being a mom is pretty hard work too and I should be able to enjoy my coffee in the morning. Coffee is more than just a pick-me-up for me, it is a comforting necessity and I just don’t feel right if I start my day without it.

So one day I discovered THE coffee maker perfect for the busy mom.

Features:
The Keurig Platinum Home Brewing System is a single-cup home coffee brewing system. It is a premium system with a wide range of features.

From the site:

The Platinum Brewing System is Keurig’s best single-cup brewing system for your home. This premium model offers discerning coffee drinkers the widest range of five cup size options for brewing.

The Platinum offers the full spectrum of features including Auto On/Off, Digital Clock, Adjustable Temperature Control and the “Set Your Favorite Cup Size” option. The largest available 60 oz. removable water reservoir holds up to ten cups before refilling and the removable drip tray allows for easy cleaning and the use of travel mugs. The sleek, award-winning design is a unique footprint among Keurig’s line of home brewing systems and includes both a blue lit water reservoir and blue lit LCD display.

Keurig was nice enough to send me my very own Platinum Brewing System, plus a whole variety of different coffees to try with it. I have put together a little video series demonstrating the Keurig and pointing out some of its features (sorry about the background noise, it was not that loud at the time, the camera made it worse).
* 5 Cup Sizes: 4 oz, 6 oz, 8 oz, 10 oz, & 12 oz *
* Removable 60 oz Reservoir
* Fully Programable Features
* Blue Backlit Display
* Quiet Brew™ Technology
* Award Winning Design

My thoughts:
KeurigThe word “keurig” is derived from the Dutch word for excellence, and so far my experience with the Keurig Platinum Brewer has been excellent. The coffee selection, in regards to the numerous available brands, blends and flavors is impressive and sure to suite everyone, plus, as I mentioned in the video, you can also get tea and hot chocolate K-cups making this machine extremely versatile.

The Keurig Platinum Brewer fits my life perfectly. I have been leaving the machine on all day, turning it off at night and have it set to turn on in the morning around 7:30, which is around the time I am ready for my first cup of coffee. Because it is a single-cup brewer, I don’t have to worry about brewing the coffee ahead of time and then dealing with drinking stale coffee because inevitably on some days my kids cause me to not actually be able to pour a cup until 10:30. KeurigThe coffee is always fresh and I can have different blends and flavors each time depending upon my mood. All of the coffee brands and flavors I have tried so far have been fantastic, certainly far better than what we usually get out of our old fashioned drip coffee maker, and comparable to many coffee shop coffees.

One of my favorite features of the Keurig is the ability to have hot water available in seconds. While I do love the tea I have tried in the K-cups, we have enough tea bags to fill the trunk of a car, so I have been putting a tea bag in my cup and brewing water from the Keurig without having a K-cup in place. I’m not sure if it is psychological or not, but the tea tastes better with the water brewed from the Keurig. We don’t have a teapot so in the past I had to heat my water in the microwave.

I also love the flexibility of this machine. By brewing one cup at a time, it allows us to each have coffee within seconds, but of the strength and flavor that we want. The different cup size settings gives us the ability to accommodate our different mug sizes and to determine the actual strength of each – the less water you add to each cup, the stronger it will be. There is also a temperature setting so your coffee will be the perfect temperature for you. The Keurig allows us to easily offer coffee or tea or hot chocolate to friends and family who want a cup without wasting any which often happens with a traditional coffee maker. And with a setting for iced coffee, there is pretty much nothing you can’t do with this machine! It is so quick and easy to brew a cup with no fuss and no mess and the clean-up is quick and easy as well.

Where to buy:
You can buy a Keurig Platinum Brewer or any of their other models right on their website. They have free ground shipping and a 30-day “worry free money back guarantee.”

You can also buy a Keurig Platinum Brewer at Amazon.com.

K-Cups can be purchased on the Keurig site and on numerous places across the web including Amazon.com. If you purchase through Keurig.com you can take advantage of their Coffee Club Rewards Program and get 10%-15% off 4 or more K-Cups boxes and get free shipping. They have the complete catalog of K-Cups so you will be able to find your favorites.

The average price for the Keurig Platinum Brewer is approximately $170. This usually includes shipping and a variety box of 18 K-Cups. If this doesn’t fit into your budget, Keurig also has a couple of other home models. The Keurig Mini costs roughly $80 and although it lacks all of the fancier features, you still get the same quality cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate with the convenience of a single-serve brewer – in a fraction of the size. The Keurig Elite costs roughly $100 and has a 48oz. water reservoir and settings for 2 different cups sizes – again with the same quality of coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The Keurig Special Edition costs roughly $130 and has a programmable clock and an adjustable temperature setting in addition to the water reservoir and great quality coffee.

After your purchase, make sure you register your Keurig online. For registering my Keurig Platinum Brewing System, I was provided a coupon code / promotional code good for 2 FREE BOXES of K-Cups with the purchase of 2 boxes if I bought them online from Keurig. Not only that, I got free shipping. So combined with their Coffee Club discount, I paid just over $6/box for each of the 4 boxes I ordered. I guarantee you will not find prices anywhere near that for a box of K-Cups – so make sure you take advantage of that offer simply by registering your machine! (Special note – make sure you write the serial number from the box into the manual, mine did not have the serial number on the unit, only on the box. You will need this to register.)

In addition to sending me a machine to try, Keurig is offering one of their Platinum Brewers to one of you VERY LUCKY PEOPLE.
