Pirates off of the Play! cd would definitely be a favorite around here!
And I loved your video, looks like she loved the dvd!

Every once in awhile something comes along that both kids and adults can enjoy. It is a rare occurrence when something designed for a young child actually appeals to adults beyond appreciating the item for its ability to keep the children occupied for any length of time.

But I have found one of those rare gems in a band called Milkshake.

Milkshake is lead by lead singer Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Gehl and also includes Michael Sheppard on electric guitar, Tom Moon on drums and Brian Simms on accordion and keyboard. They are a fun group not only with their music but their personalities as well.

From the site:

With tuneful, memorable songs that evoke influences from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Lennon-McCartney to The White Stripes, Milkshake continues to create music that appeals to both kids and their parents, even after listening to the same CD five times in a row.

We received the Milkshake DVD Screen Play, the Milkshake CD PLAY! and a Milkshake comic book.

I cannot even begin to describe my 14 month old daughter’s reaction to Milkshake when the DVD played for the very first time. Luckily I had my camera and flipped it over to video.

So, do you think she liked it? To date we have watched the DVD about a TRIZZILLION times and she still loves it. Half the time she dances and the other half she stands way too close to the TV and just stares at the screen. The DVD is basically music videos with some “behind the scenes” of the band in between. I’m not sure the kids are too interested in those parts but I find it kind of a nice break to see the band in a more personal setting and hear them chat. Abby goes up to the TV and licks it during those parts (apparently lacking in electronics in her diet). The videos range from an “in concert” style to a full blown staged music video with the band to a series of images and computer graphics. They are always fun and colorful!

It’s hard to explain the music beyond saying they are a kids band, but it is catchy with a general theme of PLAY, but the songs also touch on learning and on self-esteem. I find myself singing the songs long after the kids have gone to bed and I’m not embarrassed to say that!

There are a couple of things beyond the music that make the band appealing for kids of all ages as well. The band members have a lot of energy, are kind of goofy and silly and their clothes reflect that right down to the tutu that Lisa often wears. Jake is five and he loves the DVD too and actually asked for a tutu. I’m not kidding. And I could do without him correcting me when I sing the lyrics wrong.

I also gave a copy of the DVD (they were nice enough to send me two) to my friend (Mrs. Kravitz) for her daughter who is almost three. Let’s just say they had to go out and buy her a tutu and she was wearing it the other day when they came over for dinner.

You can buy the Milkshake DVD Screen Play and the CD PLAY!, or any of their other CDs at their online store. They also have t-shirts, inflatable beach balls and tutu’s in a multitude of colors! You can also buy the Milkshake DVD and CD’s at Amazon.com.

Or, if you are feeling lucky, you can enter our giveaway, and it is A GOOD ONE!
