I need a career makeover, definitely. I need a career! I am returning to work next month after not having worked for over a year. We’ve just been scraping by with family’s help at times. I would love to win so I can provide my daughter with what she deserves.

I would love to win the Job seekers guide and workbook to assist me in my career makeover. It would help guide me in which direction to take when I start my job search. It would help me to isolate my skills and to write a resume that ‘dazzles.’ Thanks so much!

I really need a career makeover because money is getting tight and I don’t know how much longer I can be a stay at home mom. I have my bachelors degree and a teaching certificate, however my heart is just not into teaching anymore. I know there is the perfect career out there for me and I have so many ideas, I just am having a hard time narrowing it down, getting started, etc.

Some of the things that I am interested in are writing, reading, people, helping people, owning my own business, party planning, etc. I have all these interests, but no direction.

Working from home would be ideal for me because my husband travels a lot for his job and every part time type job I have looked into, it would cost me more to put my two children in daycare than I would actually be bringing home so I am again stuck. I have looked at all the working from home jobs but I am unsure as to what is legit and what is a scam. Like I said, I need direction.

If you pick me, I will be forever appreciative. I need this career makeover desperately. Thank you for your consideration.

I am interested in the Job search guide and workbook because I am very rusty in the career department. I got pregnant while I was student teaching and since having my children I have subbed occasionally, but nothing more.

The step by step guide for making a resume, interviewing, etc would help me tremendously. Especially the interviewing. I’ve only interviewed one time for a real job and I was a basket of nerves. Needless to say, I didn’t get the job.

So please consider me for this workbook. Thank you!

I recently relocated back to the East coast in order to get myself out of the rut that my career and life had fallen into.
In the interim, I have committed to being a ‘manny’ for my brothers new baby girl. However, I know that as a college graduate I am capable and have the potential to be much more. I sincerely need the assistance of the Job Seekers Guide to re-enter the workplace with confidence.

I’d love a career makeover. I worked at an executive level for many years and then left to raise my kids. It’s time to get back in the work force but I don’t know if I want to go back to the same field; or even the same level.

I could use the Job Seekers Guide and Workbook to assist me in getting back into the workplace. Searching for jobs is completely different than it was ten years ago. I hardly know the best way to go about it productively and effectively.

“Graduating with highest honours, Doctor Amy Tucker.”

In 1993, I returned to school to get my Bachelor’s degree, which led me to a Master’s degree and most recently my Doctorate of Education. During my educational career, I celebrated my life with four wonderful, children and a grand-child.

Today, I am 42 years old and am ready to begin my career as a professor. But I need help, I look and dress like a university coed (dressed for comfort). I need your help! I am desperate to begin my life and start my career this fall.

I REALLY NEED THE Job Seekers Guide and Workbook.

I would love to win the career makeover. I’ve been in my current job for 12 years and have been seriously considering a change lately. It’s been a long time since I’ve looked for a job. Right now, I’m not even sure if I want to stay in the same field or look in a totally new direction.

The Job Seekers Guide and Workbook would be a help in my jobsearch. It’s been over 12 years since I’ve looked for a job and I need help in updating my resume, deciding where to send it and practice with interviewing.

A career makeover would be such a great help to me. I graduated from college w/a math degree, but went to work at the job I had through summers and Christmas vacations because they were in a pinch. Seven years later and I’m still here, stuck in a rut, and desperately needing to improve my situation and learn new skills. Not having had a lot of jobs, and those that I have had have sort of fallen into my lap meand that I haven’t had much experience searching for a new one and am quite intimidated with the whole thing.

I’d love to win the Guide and Workbook, it sounds like such a great product and I could really use some extra help and expertise. Without too much job seeking experience, this would be such a great help!

I would love to win the career makeover. I have gone back to school to get my bachelors degree, which I will have August of 09. Then I will be entereing the teaching program and will earn my teaching license in aprox 18 months after I enter the program. I would like to teach the third grade. Right now I am working as an acount supervisor/office manager for an Environmental Management company. So it is a huge carerr switch for me. I am stuck at where I am until I earn my teaching degree. When I say stuck, I mean I have already topped out. I cannot grow anymore with this company. I think the makeover would definitly help this huge change.

I have been in a rut for far too long! From the outside I think I seem very successful, but I am just not excited by my career. I know I am smart, interesting, curious and great to work with, but I feel boring, isolated and undervalued in my current position. I need something to help be break the ice on exploring new options, and I really need some advice on new directions that might be a good fit for me. I am a scientist and professor, and I am really struggling to find a life balance that can work for me and for my career- and I have not found one! My current job culture is not very open to new moms, and there is very little flexibility in terms of working part time or taking any time off. So I feel like I am just not in the right place at the right time. I am missing out on important time with my son, and I am not being productive enough….so I just feel like I need to find a new spot.

I am entering for both giveaways for my husband. He is currently going to school and will be graduating in a year, and while he’ll have the education, he’s struggling on how to make himself shine to get the job over the uneducated but experianced applicants. He’s applied at job after job trying to just get his foot in the door so that he can get some the experiance as well, but without luck. To make matters worse, he hates his current job where he has been for almost 4 years. While he loved it at first, he has a supervisor who makes everyones lives a living hell. His boss is wonderful though so it puts him in a tight spot since he wants to use them as a reference but at the same time, for obvious reasons, doesn’t want them to know. Did I mention that it is the only position he’s had that could potentially qualify for experiance? Anyways, he’s a stress case and I don’t know what to do to help him but I know this would be wonderful… even if it’s just the smaller giveaway… anything is better than nothing!

I need a career makeover! I’m back in school after almost 15 years as a secretary of one sort or another. My resume was great when i was looking for Admin jobs in the Construction field, but now that I’m looking for an entry level position in Information Technology, I really need help with my resume… Plus, I have a feeling that job-hunting a professional career is a bit different that interviewing to be an admin assistant. I feel less confident than ever about my skills…

Oh PLEASE HELP ME! I need a career makeover! Here is my sob story… My whole life has basicly been volunteer experience, I received 2 master’s degrees (MA Christian Ministry and MM Nonprofit Administration) last year but have not had a chance to use them. All my work experience, a whole 2 months, was done overseas in Africa. I have been job hunting ever since my husband and I moved back to America 1 year ago when I got pregnant. I send out at least two resume’s a week for ALL types of jobs (except McDonalds) and I have not been called in for an interview even once!!! Do I not have enough experience? Am I overqualified? Plus since I had moved around so much in the past years I dont have anything that shows I will stay put in any job that I do take. My husband has a good degree but it is from Congo and it means jack squat in America, so although he has a job it is not enough to support us and we have to live with my mother. I must be the only person in the state with two master’s degrees yet lives off of the WIC program and Medicaid to cover mine and my son’s medical care. What do I need to do to get a job???? PLEASE HELP! I don’t want to live with Grandma forever!!!

Six years ago, my consultation business was just starting to blossom. I was getting referrals from individuals and state agencies and I was building a reputation for myself. My husband, a software engineer, was laid-off and it sent our lives into a tailspin. One horrible thing after another started mounting against us, so I was forced to abandon my start-up and take a miserable job with a steady, reliable income to help level things off until my husband could secure a position in his field. Sixteen months later, he found a job that required a great deal of travelling, so, I quit my lousy job to be home for our disabled daughter after school and during school breaks. Since then, my contacts have dried up, and frankly, my confidence is gone. With our three older daughters all attending college this fall, we have never been in greater need of a second paycheck. Can you help?

I am a stay at home mom, and I haven’t worked for seven years. Prior to that I worked in sales at two different publishing companies (one a book publisher, another a magazine publisher). I have a degree in Linguistics and I would like to find a job that uses those skills in some way. My husband has a good job though, so if there is someone who desparately needs this I would rather they get the grand prize.

I have since had 2 kids. I am very happy in the US and just got my greencard so I am ready to work. But I have no idea about the job market here and need some confidence getting back to work. I would really appreciate the guidance and support of this career makeover!

I’m in my mid thirties and I’m in the proverbial rut-I’ve been in the same job since graduating from college. It’s comfortable-a little too comfortable. At this point, I feel as though I’m the only person my age who still doesn’t know “what I want to be when I grow up.” I think that I’ve been dreaming of a career make-over without realizing it.

I need a career makeover. I’ve been at the same job since I was in high school. It’s physically demanding and I’m always exposed to the elements. This makes me so tired when I come home to my son. I’ve always wanted to be a stay at home mom. Recently I found out my son has a peanut allergy, this could be due to his difficulty at birth. The doctors weren’t sure if he would make it, but he was a fighter and survived several days of testing and antibiotics. It is extremely scary for me to send him to daycare every single day wondering if he might have an allergic reaction there, and if so will they be able to take the right procedures to help him. You hear about kids dying at daycare from allergy reactions and I desperately don’t want my son to be one of them. I cannot afford to be a stay at home mom. If I could find a stay at home job it would mean the world to me and my son who cries and clings to me every morning I walk out the door while daddy takes him to daycare. Please help me to start a new career from home so I can be with my son who needs me and needs a home that is 100 percent safe for him to be in.

If ever there was a Makeover with my name on it, this one is it. I’ve been a Stay At Home Mom since the 80’s. My youngest turned 18 today, so now its time for me to have a new life.
In the past year my husband left me for a 23 yo, empty out our bank accounts and took everything even our friends. He lied in court and since hes a member of the Good Old Boys Club, we won the house and everything and didn’t have to give me a penny.
So now here I am 43years old, sharing a 2 bedroom apartment with my 23yo daughter and living on my Disability Check of $744 a month, and no marketable job skills. And I’m scared. I don’t know where I go from here or what my best options are. And honestly at this point .

Wow! How timely. I really need this career makeover!

I’m a flight attendant with…drumroll please…United Airlines. Yes that United, the airline everybody loves to hate. It’s also the airline that is closer to liquidation than any other major airline. It’s so bad that I check their website before I leave the house for a trip to make sure they are still operating! LOL! Seriously.

I’ve been there since 1998. I took a semester off of college, where I was going for a degree in nursing, to “fly around and see stuff”. I swore to my parents that it would be only a semester. It’s been a reeeeally long semester.

Since then, I got married and have 2 children (twins). I still enjoy my job, but the writing is on the wall. I HAVE to have an exit plan. I have a lot of skills that could transfer to another career, and some that don’t really transfer. (Who’s looking for employees that can evacuate a full 747 in under 90 seconds?) Problem is, how do I find the best fit for me? I’ve been where I am for 10 years, I’ve been happy here, I thought I was incredibly lucky to find a career I enjoy. Is it possible to find that again? Don’t people search and search for the one? Could I possibly get a 2nd one?

I think I deserve this because I sincerely need help in this area. It’s strange to even write that. I’m self-sufficient and independent by nature, but I am truly at a loss at this point.

Thank you for all the work that you do, and for taking the time to read these responses.

    Hope to hear from you,

I desperately need a career makeover! I haven’t stopped working since my kids were born, but instead of being “out there” and going to work every day, I’ve been freelancing as a writer and teacher. There has been a huge amount of variety and I’ve been able to learn on the fly to do whatever is required of me every day. Every day is different and I have learned about so many different topics and acquired so many different skills that I don’t know how to package myself any more. When asked for the one work description of what I do, the only word I can think of is “everything!” and that sounds kind of arrogant.

  35. Kate
    #35

Over the past six months, I have submitted my resume in response to no fewer than 15 job postings for positions that I have held in the past and could do with my eyes closed and one hand tied behind my back. I haven’t had a response from any of them. I don’t know what I am doing wrong, but it must be something basic. The rules of successful job searching have obviously been re-written and I need The Savvy Jobseeker’s Guide & Workbook: Five Steps to a Simply Successful Job Search to help me learn the new rules.

I am currently a realtor and the market does not look as if it is going to pick up in the near future.

I am also a CPA that in the past worked with corporations to improve their profits, cash flow or make their operations more efficient.

I have been out of the accounting field for almost 10 years and at the present time updating my knowledge base with 160 of continuing education.

I am also 63 years old and need assistance with reentering the world of corporate finance. I need assistance with my career path.

I would use your program wisely if I have the chance to do so.

    Thanks,

I am currently unemployed and job seeking at age 51. I have been a social worker and a probation/parole officer for over 30 years. I have experienced a number of health problems including 2 bouts with cancer. I have always been a working mother. I have 2 great adult children (both now married) and a grandchild. I need to makeover my career to a new field with less stress.

  38. Megan

I am newly married, and unemployed. My sweet husband has a job he loves, but it is a stressful job and he works so hard! I want to be able to make life at home easier on him. He works odd hours- the midnight shift!- and his days off are in the middle of the week, so I would like to find a job with hours that allow me to spend time with him. Money is really tight for us right now, so I really need to find a well-paying job soon. I have been looking for a job since May, but part of the problem is that I still am not sure what I want career-wise. I’d love to be able to work from home, but I don’t know where to start. I need a Career Makeover because my husband deserves a break. He is a public servant, and he is such a sweet man who gives me everything I could ever ask for. I want to be able to help him and make things easier for him. Thanks for your consideration.

  39. Beverly

This is an answer to prayer. I live in a small town - 6,500 people and there are no decent paying jobs. For the past 5 years, I have driven 50 miles each way to work. I am a single Mom and my daughter has just started driving. With the cost of gas prices rising my monthly gas bill is literally half of one paycheck. The stress of the drive, the negativity of my workplace and working for a single, no kids, six-figure salaried boss who doesn’t even have a clue what it would be like to have to struggle both mentally and financially, is enough to make me want to jump ship, but there is no where to jump. I need help making my resume stand out from the other 100’s that apply for the same job. I want to actually work somewhere that I enjoy spending the day at and not wake up each morning dreading going to work.

  40. Audrey
    #40

I would love to win this. I am not a college graduate. I began working at home at age 23. Today I’m 48, not exactly the prime age for those looking to hire someone. I’ve only been back in the workforce the last 5 years and I’ve never really had the opportunity to examine “what I want to be”. This would be a wonderful opportunity to examine what my options are and where I would most enjoy spending the next 10 years or so.

Oh my, do I NEED this!! I am a single mom working at Pizza Hut, and I am SO ready to go crazy there! I am tired of not having enough money for the bills, much less for back to school. Every night I pray that God helps me find a job I enjoy, that I don’t hate to go to, and I trust it will happen in His time, not mine, but it’s hard sometimes (ok, all the time)

  42. Ginny

I could really use this actually. My husband is struggling with finding work and I have been out of work since 2001. Both my girls in school now, so it is a good time for me to go back to work or go back to school. I honestly just have no idea how to start. I’ve been doing stuff online, but it hardly gets us by. I’d love some help finding a career that could support my family. I really need to do something soon before we end up losing everything.

I think I’m doing this correctly, you want separate entries for the 2 prizes I believe. For the Job Seekers Guide and Workbook, that could really help me figure out how to look for the right job. Both prizes are great, this would be nice if I didn’t win the big one!

I’m interested in the Job Seeker’s Guide and Workbook. I’m really confused as to the direction I should go upon reentry into the work force this fall. I am not going to look for a “career” but I want a job that will be fulfilling and satisfying and make the most of my skills. I’m not even sure what my strengths are because I got married so young and then started having children. I never really had the chance to find myself. I hope the guide and workbook could steer me the right way.

I am a Mom with three grown sons. My two oldest sons have autism. Because they are over 21, they no longer have a school program to attend.

The last few years I have been a loan closer, which is a part time position and something I could do at my convenience. Most of the time, the closings took place in the evening, when my husband returned from work.

Because the real estate market is in such a slump, I have earned less than $1,000 this entire summer. I know I need a new job, but just can’t figure out what.

I have been waitressing one night a week to get a few dollars for grocery money. But, it’s not much of a career!

My youngest son is starting college in a few weeks, and the amount of money I make sure isn’t going to go far to pay his tuition!

I’ve applied for a few jobs, but the hours never seem to be compatible with my being home to take care of my older sons. (Or the pay is so low, it’s not worth it to drive there.)

I have always been interested in travel. I’m curious to see if there is a job out there in the travel industry for me.

I’ve never had a job I liked…I think it would be amazing to have the experience of liking what I do AND getting paid for it!

I desperately need a career makeover. I lived in an economically depressed area and I can’t seem to find a job that pays enough to cover a fleas butt.

I’ve got a degree in news, but I took a job doing web design. When the company reorganized, I was moved to Purchasing. I’m a good, reliable employee, but I know I’m not going to get more than a $0.20 raise/year for the rest of the time I work there… I’m sick of being a college graduate that puts in the work and goes above and beyond for $20k a year.
I feel like my life is on hold–I can’t pay off debt and start saving for my future (been with the boyfriend for 6 years) on $20k a year. I’ve come to the point where I know a change is needed, but I need help to make that step.

I am desperate! I have been working in medical billing and pretty much backing up the doctors in every aspect they need me in and I am so burned out! I recently had to leave my last job due to medical reasons and I am now on the prowl for a new job, but I truly want it to be a new career, but I don’t even know where to begin.
I need a career makeover! I want someone to pay me what I deserve or to at least look me in the eye!

I’m submitting this for the grand prize, the guide, the notebook and whatever else you’re offering! I’m DESPERATE! I have a BA and an MA, yet I’m making less than I was 10 years ago due to layoff that was a sucker punch to my self-esteem. I have settled for a secure but low-paying government job. I need help to get me motivated to find a job worthy of my education and skills. I can’t even find the motivation to revise my resume because the current economy is so scary. I also want to relocate, so I’m feeling overwhelmed by the thought of a cross country job search. Help?

I need a career makeover because my present position is as a casual worker doing manual labor without any benefits. I am currently laid off. I am struggling to pay the mortgage and keep my family up. I have had my car repossed and have court judgements against me. This has caused problens with my marriage. I have education but I don’t have any skills or experience other than manual labor. Jobs I apply for either want experience or skills such as usage of computers, fork lift experience or CDL. I was admitted as an attorney but I was unsuccessful in my job search. I am unable to pay the Bar Association fees. My age works against me. I have tried employment agencies and the state labor department but they don’t make much of an effort to help.

I need a career makeover because I have been out of the workforce for a while taking care of my fiance who had a stroke. I have experience in technical support and customer service but am thinking about changing careers to become a pet sitter or groomer. I’m not sure what steps I should take to achieve my goal. Thanks for this great contest!

I need a career makeover because I feel stuck in my current position. I have a BS and and MS, but I do not feel that my work life is going in the right direction and I can’t seem to catch a break to change it for the better. The grand prize would be wonderful.

I originally went to school for computer programming and networking. Well, I didn’t realize I would have to relearn all the technology every other month, so that’s why I want a career makeover. I’m thinking I’d love to write books. Books for everyone! I have great ideas, but I need a plan to get all that stuff out on paper. Thanks for the opportunity.

I am very interested in the Job Seekers Guide and Workbook. I feel like I’m going in circles with my job search. I always stress myself out over cover letters and resumes and I don’t seem to get anywhere. I need to learn how to better present my skills. I also get very nervous before interviews, so I would really like some help in this area too. Thanks for the giveaway.
