Three About Me

I’ve been tagged by Sassy at The Sassy Southerner for a Meme. A meme is essentially like those emails you receive where you edit the last persons answers to some questions about you and then forward it on to others so they can learn more about you. It’s a fun way to learn about other bloggers.

Here goes:

3 Places I Go All the Time
1. The grocery store. Not by choice really, but my kids have to eat.
2. The bathroom. I have to hide somewhere.
3. Target. I love Target!

3 People Who Email me
1. My Mom
2. The Nigerian lottery officials
3. My husband’s uncle

3 Favorite Places I Like to Eat
1. Any pizza parlor.
2. Any Mexican restaurant.
3. Chilis

3 Places I would rather be right now
I actually can’t think of any place I’d rather be besides here.

3 Projects I would like to get started
1. Clean our lower level.
2. Clean my daughter’s room.
3. Scrapbooking.

3 People who might do this
1. Cindi
2. Heather
3. Myra

3 TV Shows I could watch over and over
1. X-Files. I’m weird.
2. Hart to Hart. Welcome to my time warp.
3. Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. I have a crush on Elliot.

If you participate, leave me a comment so I can check out your responses!

Vacation pictures

The girls were so excited when we first got to the cottage, that they wanted to snap some pictures. Naively, I said “Sure, go ahead,” and off they ran. Well, here are a few images I found on my media card.

Madeline took this one. Pretty good….

This was the nightstand in their room…

And, well……

That’s what I get for giving a camera to a nine and five year old.

Did I miss something? Who exploded on “er”?

luka kovachI just finished watching the Season Finale of “er” (yes, I’m a bit behind and yes I LOVE my DVR) and as I did I became a little bit upset thinking it was the final episode ever and someone exploded and we didn’t know who. I was quite irked that they would end the show that way.

As I began typing this, I went to the NBC page about “er” and discovered that next season is the last season. Now I’m mad for other reasons. Luka told Abby they should pick up and move somewhere where no one knows them.

Huh?

Hello???

They are my 2 favorite characters, they cannot leave before the show ends.

I’ll be mad!

What was I thinking?

garage sale

We are having a garage sale this weekend. We’ve been planning for weeks, thinking we could get organized well since we allowed so much time.

Yea right….

Nicole (my neighbor and friend) is still in her garage setting things up and listening for things that go bump in the night….

Relax lady, you’ve got yourself a fine guard dog!

Anyhow, consider therapy up front if you ever decide to have a garage sale - you’ll need it afterwards.

Hopefully the millions I plan on raking in this weekend will make up for the hassle. Anyone want an old TV Guide, some old paint or 14 gazillion used stuffed animals????

Plan your holiday shopping ahead of time!

No Comments yet, please be the first! »

black fridayI admit that I am totally addicted to bargain hunting. It’s like a game for me, especially around the holidays. One year I bought 6 $30 label makers for $4 each during a “one-day” deal and then had to figure out whom I would give them to. I was so proud of my conquest, I actually bragged to the recipients how little they cost.

What I lack in tact I make up for in….hmmm…..there must be something….

Anyhow, before Thanksgiving rolls around, the world of sales and deals discussions on the web is abuzz with anticipation over the always anticipated “Black Friday”, the Friday after Thanksgiving. This day officially kicks off the Christmas shopping season and is known for its great deals. The new trend in the last few years has been for stores to also offer Black Friday deals online, but the question is, how do you find out about these deals?

In general, I urge you to subscribe to our updates and you can receive a free copy of our e-book that discusses how to find great shopping deals online. In addition to that (and we will definitely be adding this resource to the e-book) is a site called BlackFriday. You can go to the site RIGHT NOW and see the specials that stores will be having for Black Friday 2008! I’m not sure how they know, but they claim to, and I saw some things I’ve already got my eye on. Mommy needs a new computer and both Best Buy and Circuit City are going to have some great sales. The best part is, you can actually order these Black Friday deals right from your computer desk, there is no need to visit the store. I only see one thing that would make the BlackFriday site better and that is a wishlist feature where you can bookmark the things you have your eye on.

I’m definitely going to use BlackFriday as a resource for my holiday shopping bargain hunting!

Free Paid Surveys - safe to share personal info?

This article is the second in our series of in-depth discussions regarding free paid surveys.

If you missed the first article, you might want to go back and read Free Paid Surveys - are they legit? before reading this article.

Any time you do anything online that involves revealing personal information you need to be smart about to whom and how you give it. In general, most paid survey sites are going to ask you for your name, address, birthday, and occasionally your phone number. They will also ask some demographic information such as your marital status, education level, profession, number of children, and maybe more, depending upon the type of panel you are applying for.

Me, myself and the mental patients

screamWhat is it about a screaming, crying child that causes other children to scream and cry? Is it a full moon? Am I a horrible person and this is retribution raining down upon me? Is there some sort of poison in the air affecting their brains?

Last night, while we were supposed to be sleeping (not that we ever get any…or not that I ever get any) both of my children decided to cry and scream for no apparent reason. The 6 month old, well, I understand that she’s a baby and doesn’t need a reason, but the 4 year old…sheeesh… When asked why he was crying, and what was wrong, he insisted it was nothing yet he continued to wail.

All the while…

My husband slept.

Isn’t that just mean and rude?

A Blurb About a Blog - “The Sassy Southerner”

We’re starting a new weekly series here at “What’s That Smell?” that I’ve titled “A Blurb About A Blog”. Each week (likely on a Thursday because that’s when I happen to be starting this) we will be writing a few sentences about a blog that we like in order to introduce you to some of the other fantastic bloggers out there. They might be bloggers we admire, those that inspire us, or those that simply have a cool design. In short, any blog that has piqued our interest for one reason or another.

If you would like to suggest a blog for us to include, please contact us using the contact button at the top of our site and we will do our best to include your site.

Selecting the first site that you choose for something like this is a difficult process. Mainly because I don’t want any of the other wonderful bloggers out there to feel disappointed that they weren’t chosen first, especially my many new friends. Please know that just because I chose one blog to be the first one featured, it doesn’t mean that you are not all first in my book!

Anyway, on to it….

Our first “A Blurb About a Blog” blog is….

Drumroll please…….

The Sassy Southerner

Sassy, the author of The Sassy Southerner is witty, honest and a great communicator. Her blog is full of personal anecdotes that I relate to very well and she always personally responds to the comments I leave. Her humor and plain old brutal honesty in her posts inspires me to put more of myself into my writing and posting.

Go pay a visit to The Sassy Southerner and I’m sure she’ll hook you like she has hooked me!

Thermos Sling Pack Lunch Cooler - a review

Last spring, we started taking a lot more nature walks and bike rides and I always had one problem. What do you do with the water bottles? I was usually the one expected to carry them. I didn’t want to put them in a backpack in case they spilled, so we left them in the van.

Recently, I picked up a Thermos Sling Pack Lunch Cooler at Target. I love it!! It’s huge - it can hold a twelve pack of 12 oz. cans. We were able to easily carry water for five people, two baggies of snacks, a couple of granola bars, and an ice pack. As expected, the pack does a great job of keeping things cold. The straps are zippered at the top to allow for adjustment, and it is very comfortable to carry.

There are two features that make this a great product. First, there is a small zippered outside pocket for things like keys, cell phones, identification. This allowed for truly hands free hiking. Secondly, the location and configuration of the zipper allows you to pull out a water bottle without having to take the pack off. When the zipper is open, the contents do not spill out. The kids were able to easily get their water and put it back with little help from me.

And, finally, you’ve gotta love that you can grab one at Target and it’s Target priced!

See all three color options in our Amazon store, under the Sports and Outdoors category.
